Leupold GX-2

Yeh or ney?

Looking at getting a laser range finder after selling my skycaddie (hated paying yearly fees and having to charge the thing all the time).

The Leupold GX-2 caught my eye. Anybody here using it? Like it?

Are all the higher end laser rangefinders about the same performance wise? I definitely want one with slope, that is a primary concern for me.

I own a GX-2. Great, great range finder. You will not be disappointed.

picked up a GX-4 for 400$ shipped to Canada off Ebay brand new, it's in the mail on the way to me...can't wait for the snow to melt!

Wow, that's a great deal. Hope the snow melts here quick. We've got several inches still on the ground and more coming our way (Yuck!)

I am now considering the GX-4 so I can use it in tournaments. Discount Dan's has super deals on all of the GX series rangefinders.

GX-3 owner here. I think this is a great unit.
The 3 and 4 have OLED displays which are super clear during fog or bright days.

One surprise we had when playing at a course that had the prisms in the flag sticks is that the unit [b]beeps [/b]when it locks on to the prism. This means the yardage is more accurate.

You can't use the GX-4 in a tournament. The USGA did not approve it. That is what I am wanting, and the only reason I haven't got one was for that reason. I haven't decided if it better to go ahead and get a GX-3 so I can use it anywhere, or get a GX-4 that I can only use playing with my buddies.

The GX-4 is legal for tounament play as the elevation and club selection modes can be turned off by taking off or leaving on the yellow faceplate.

The GX-4 is still not allowed per USGA even without the yellow face plate

The above post is correct...the GX-4 has NOT been approved by the USGA yet. I believe Leupold is still in the process of fighting this. I own the GX-3 and its easily the best rangefinder I have owned.

Unfortunately, the USGA in their infinite wisdom did not approve the device even though they have a VERY explicit way to deactivate the functionality that would conflict with rules related to slope and elevation. There have been several threads on this top and I've definitely argued that it should be allowed since the GX-4 can be set-up to conform within the rules.

I decided to go with the GX-2 model for the price. Landed one brand new for under $300.
