Travel bag cover! Which one do you use?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I am going to Florida tomorrow and just wanted to ask you what travel bag you use? I have a decent travelbag with no fancy brand but it works. I am looking to get a Titleist travel cover but I assume they are pricey...

I am travelling with my precious putter tomorrow and though I'll ask you, have you lost your bag when travelling? How rare is it? black%20eye.gif

The Titleist travel bags are just club glove bags w titleist embroidered on it for about $30 more. IMO, the Titleist bag just draws more attention to your luggage in the airport and encouraging more people to walk off with it. The Titleist bag screams "I have expensive clubs inside, take me please". Take it from a guy who travels w his clubs all the time, get your self a Club glove last bag or burst proof (by far the best TBs made) and get your name embroidered on the side, which make people less app to want to steal it in the airport, it unmistakably yours. Another recommendation would be buy a weird color (yellow, red, orange) everyone has black, it pretty easy to pick out a guy walking off with your canary yellow last bags.

O yeah and get a stiff arm while your at it

Not sure how it works here in the US, but where i come from we have golfers' insurance, and it covers lost equipment. Certain travel insurance packages offered by US-based companies also include coverage for sports equipment for an additional premium.

Is your precious putter really expensive, or does it just have high sentimental value? Insurance or not, i think it'll be difficult to find coverage for a $10k putter. Besides, you'd be crazy to be gaming that...

Club Glove or something of similar quality is the only way to go. Combine it with a sawed off broom stick or a stiff arm. I had a hard case once upon a time but it's such a pain to use with smaller vehicles.

To answer the second question, I would say the airline delays my sticks two to four times of 10 but they have never lost them. Unfortunately for me they just seem to come in the next flight, it's like my clubs don't want to be on the same plane as I am.

Most home owners or rental insurance policies will cover clubs that are lost or stolen. The insurance company will want proof of ownership which in most cases pictures are just fine.

I ship my sticks right to the first course I'm playing - call ahead and tell them to accept the package and pay a kid $10 to unpack it and whatnot. Ends up being cheaper than a lot of airlines with baggage fees these days, and I'm covered for the full replacement cost if something happens (whereas you not only have to pay the baggage fees, they also make you sign something that says they aren't responsible for what you just paid them to take). Plus I don't have to haul it around. then I ship 'em home.

Simple...easy - that's what we're going for, right?

Checked with the insurance company and if my bag gets stolen and don't come back to me I get 2900 USD to buy new clubs. Doesn't cover everything buy I think it was something at least.. More than I expected. But let's hope for the best, my putter really means everything to me.

I can get a nice Titleist travel cover for about 130$ which also felt pretty cheap, is it?

My wife and I use Ogio bags that we picked up for about $80 each on clearance a year or two ago. I think it's the Straight Jacket model, but it's been a few years so I can't be totally sure. The bag is plenty big (handles my Sun Mountain C-130 + shoes, balls, extra clothes no problem) and seems well-made. After numerous trips ours still look great, no major damage and even the normal wear and tear that all luggage takes when traveling by air has been minimal. It's a soft bag so I also add a Club Glove stiff arm just in case in should get dropped on the end where the clubs are exposed. Generally speaking, I've been really happy with the bag and I can't imagine spending $200-$300 on a travel bag. I think if you're willing to buy a model that's been out for a year or two you can definitely find some good deals. One a final note, we were able to fit two of these bags (both carrying C-130s + extras) into the trunk of a full-size rental car without any problems.

Assuming you're flying domestically, it's pretty unlikely that the airlines will outright lose your bag. If have a tight connection or something it's possible that your bags might not make it until a later flight, but having a bag be lost completely is quite unusual these days (not saying that it never happens, but it wouldn't be a huge concern for me). Someone else touched on the possibility of theft, and I think that's really a much bigger concern than the airline losing your bag. As others said, get a bag that's a bright color so that it's unmistakeably yours, skip a bag with a popular name like Titleist on the side, and watch the baggage claim like a hawk if you're carrying valuable clubs. There's also the problem of the TSA occasionally pilfering things from people's bags, but sadly I really don't think there's much that can be on that one.

Club Glove Last Bag with stiff arm. I travel with my clubs 4-5 times/year and have never had them lost (delayed a few times). I previously used a hard case but it was bulky and did not fit well into rental cars.

I would think twice about bringing your prized putter--resorts and high-end courses are a mecca for thieves.
