REAX 49 shaft... How is it??

quality shaft or wet noodle?

Just wondering how these stock shafts are that TM uses in many of their FW's and drivers. I assume they are soft tip, high launch, high spin shafts. Also how do they compare to upgrade shafts... Do they play like a grafalloy prolaunch blue? Do most people that get these shafts end up swapping them out for something better?..

I think you'll find that a lot of people switch them. I had a REAX 50g in my 07 Burner driver, and that thing was a balloon machine for me. I switched it to a ProLaunch Red, and had significantly better results. I wouldn't say that the REAX shafts play anything like a PL Blue. If you need a med/high launch shaft, a PL Blue would be a good upgrade from the REAX.

I didn't mind them in my '08 Burner Driver and Fairway woods. The lightness of the shaft took some getting used to. I don't know how to explain it perfectly, but the shaft was actively but not overly whippy. I think the shaft is more geared for swingers rather than hitters. I had to slow down my tempo and allow the shaft enough time to catch up. When I hit it good, it went as far as any driver I have hit, but being so long and light I could never really fall in love with it.

Grafalloy ProLaunch Blue is heavier, feels a tad bit more stable, performs roughly the same. Good solid shaft for a low ball hitter. A friend absolutely loves it in the 3wood I sold him.

I gamed a 07 burner with a reax stiff shaft the end of last year. Great head but the shaft was a high ball hitter for me. I just reshafted with a Aldila NV55 pink shaft. Last time at the range the flight was lower with a penetrating ball flight. Shaft was close to the reax 50 weight so no much difference in swing weight. I have another 07 stick that I may reshaft with a prolaunch red. I will be having a shootout for gamer this year between a R9 460, 07 Burner and Hibore XL (reshafted with a NV-65.

What's your swing speed and do you have a smooth swing?

More of a swinger not a hitter. Swing speed with driver is 103. Also, the shaft/head in question is actually a 09 burner 3 wood.

Dont get fooled by the 49 on the shaft either. I have a Superfast 48 pull that weights almost 53 grams at 41 3/4".

To be honest... that shaft is like a hot air balloon.

If you don't feel like ditching out the extra $, go stiffer than usual at least...

My advice would be to do that if you really want that specific head and buy a shaft over here (you'll get it for wayyy cheaper and you won't be stuck with the made-for TM upgrades which usually dont perform as well)
