which would you choose...
Will be in Orlando in early July and have a choice of Reunion Watson/Nicklaus courses or Cypress New Course & North/South... Anyone played these recently that can offer advice on which to choose?

Thanks
Mark

Mark - I've played Grand Cypress and Reunion and have stayed at both places a couple of times each. Are you doling a "stay and play" deal, because the lodging options might make a difference for you. At Reunion you would stay in a house or condo at Grand Cypress you would probably be in a high rise hotel. Both are very niceplaces. For the golf I give a slight nod to Reunion. The New Course at Grand Cypress is different from the other three courses. the New is an homage to the Old Course at St Andrews. It has a lot of double greens, mounds, pot bunkers and wide fairways. It is a nice experience but not a real links experience. It has not played firm or fast the times I have played it. I'd say it is the course that should most influence your decision as to where to play as the other three will be similar in style, so if you think you'd like the New, play Grand Cypress. If that doesn't appeal to you play Reunion.

The service at Reunion is super and it has always been in great shape although I haven't played or stayed there in a couple of years. I do plan to atke a group there next year though and chose it for the trip over Grand Cypress.

Here are photos of the New course at GC. Some are from a winter round and others from a spring round and the course looks different in each season.

Thanks, that is good info. We will be burning a timeshare most likely so not doing a play n stay, but will hit one of the pairs listed and probably add one or two more. The "new" course intrigues us, although honestly I've always found "replica' holes or "inspired by" designs often don't live up to the billing. Golden Ocala is a good example of that, as well as the now defuct Pro 3's in South Ga. I am leaning towards Reunion but some in the group really want to try the links style "new" course and I think I will be outvoted... Thanks for the pics links I will look them over.

Regards,
Mark

Played both many, many times and I would go with Reunion. Grand Cypress is fantastic (especially the New Course) but for overall golf reunion is better IMO.

If you're not staying at Reunion, you probably won't get on. I've played all three courses there and the pro shop staff insist that you must stay on site to play. I think that's absurd, but supposedly that's in the charter with the members/residents. That being said, if you are staying off site and can get on I'd think about this:
Play the Grand Cypress New Course, and the Nicklaus/Palmer courses at Reunion. I loved the New Course at Grand Cypress, and Nicklaus, Palmer at Reunion. i' didn't particulary like the Watson course...I don't think there was a flat spot on any fairway on that entire course. I also shot what I consider to be my personal best round of 75 on the Palmer course (my lowest score is 72). It's a fairly tough track, but I had a great ball striking round and made a few putts here and there...until the wind came up on the back nine. I was under par on the front.

Interesting about the Watson course, Conservatory is the same, not a flat spot to be found and is also a Signature Watson design...

Hands down I would choose Reunion. Stay onsite, let the family use the great pools and play three wonderful golf courses. Can't beat it.
