Good way to track your progress?

I was reading this month's Golf Digest, and in the "buy this" column they listed the par-formance scoring journal. You can see it Here.

I figured what the heck, for $10 it's a good tool to help my game. My game is pretty raw and inconsistent now, about the only area I don't need a lot of work is putting. Distance control on par 3's is pretty good too. Still, this journal will help me really focus on my course management, and on improving those areas that are weakest.

I also figure that if I have to stop for two seconds and keep track of my game, it'll help me stay calm, stop rushing my shots, and keep on grinding after making a big number on a hole.

I already use TGC's game tracker online, but this should be helpful as well.

Par-formance is run by a personal friend of mine, and I'm glad to hear that he's finally getting some nationwide recognition in GolfDigest!

 

My (somewhat biased) opinion is that it is a very useful tool if you really want to see what's going on with your statistics, tracking, and trends in your game. Properly utilized - it can show you what's going on with your game, and what you need to work on.

 

The sections that allow you to enter which club you hit on each shot is sometimes a bit too tedious for most goflers to enter. However - I find that sometimes I notice I hit more fairways with certain clubs (oddly - sometimes I hit more fairways with Driver than F/woods), and other unique things of that nature. Anyone who wants to track their stats should give it a look.

^^Actually, the ability to enter the type of club you hit was one of the big attractions for me. Like many amateurs, I often struggle with figuring out the proper club to hit on approach shots from different lies. Even on the fairway I tend to come up short or long. Right now I'd say I average maybe 4 GIR, and those are usually the par-3's. I play a lot of the same courses, so being able to have a handy reference as to which club I should hit is indeed handy.

 

I've already been using my own version of the par-formance journal; I basically carry a little notepad, I have to jot down notes all over the place as I'm playing. Since I'm serious about improving all aspects of my game, I figured $26 (for 3) was a no-brainer.

 

I'll let you know how useful I find it, but it seems like a great product.
