ball position

ok this might seem a little stupid...but i fell comfortable on this site so im gonna ask it anyway!!!
did any of u guys notice that on most of luke donalds full shots in the pga he addressed the ball out of the heel of the club???
if u guys have it recorded would u be bale to help me out?

Your eyes weren't fooling you. That setup is used by many players who fade the ball. Vijay is probably the most popular player who does it, but it always seems Donald has the ball even closer to the hosel than Vijay. Whatever helps return the sweet spot of the clubface to the center of the ball at impact is what dictates setup/ball position.

Didn't Fuzzy use to address the ball with his club outside the target line?

Many pro's have done this over the years...Gary Player did this in the early 70's...I watched him as a kid...Fuzzy was extreme with it.

 

It is also a "swing thought" to help drop into plane coming down -- as opposed to coming over the top, which is the opposite. To the player, with the ball there, you say to yourself "I better drop into play to come back to the center of the clubface."

i noticed that too, really easy to see when he was hitting his hybrid. i figured it was just part of his setup. i play with a guy who hits a big draw and his club is about 3" away from the ball at address. same type of thinking, just the opposite ball flight.
