hitting ground at before ball

howdy!

what is the most common "flaw" if you hit the ground first before the ball? :cheesy: could it be weight shifting?

Sounds like you have too much latteral movement in your hips.

speak to your local pro they will help you sort the problem

The only time I hit the ball fat is when I don't transfer my weight over to my left side on time. What happens is that sometimes I get to focused on trying to stay behind the ball that I don't remember to really get through the shot. So it may be the same cause for your chunked shots too.

Do you also catch the ball thin at times...

 

If so, it could be that you are lifting your head too soon. You probably wouldn't think so if you are catching it fat, but lifting your head can cause your back shoulder to dip and therefore catch the ball too fat.

 

Conversely, lifting your head can also cause your entire body to pop up on occasion; causing a thin shot.

i would defenitely see a pro. after i recuperate from my injury. my rib muscle got so swollen from hitting the ground hard. no golf for me til then. :cheesy:

my personal experience with fat hits was not shifting my weight to the front leg on the down swing

 

at first I "cured" it by not shifting so much weight to the back leg on the backswing, but that took 10 yards off my irons and too many thin mis-hits

 

my new "cure" is to exagerate the weight shift on the backswing making sure that my front leg heel lifts off the ground. When I get the front heel off the ground, I feel like I have no choice but to shift my weight early in the back swing and make a complete follow through. My new problem is picking the right club, because not only did I get my old yardage back, but now I'm getting 10 yards more

I am no expert, but are you keeping your right knee flexed?

 

For me (I had a ton of fat shots) keeping my knee flexed prevented sway...which would cause me to hit it fat.

if your lines are good the only thing that can cause you to hit it fat is losing your angles to soon (flipping at it) or not staying in your posture throughout the swing... If your not completely chunking it but just hitting a little bit fat another thing I found was that I was putting too much pressure on the ground behind the ball, that was also causing me to take it back quick, so try to make the club a little lighter on the ground behind the ball.. like imagine the ground is a weight scale, try to keep the weight as low as possible

lifting my head soon has always been my problem. thats why i always make my self conscious to get the feeling of like touching my chin to my right shoulder at follow thru. personally, i think whats causin my fat shots are dipping my right side of body to much thinkin i could generate more power from doing so.. although i could be wrong. definitely need to see instructor. just so we know i am coming from a 2 year lay off . only started again last april.
