Should I tke My Clubs?
My daughter is going to study in Cheltingham this Fall. My wife and I might sneak out there and see her during her semester, don't know for sure at this point.

If we go, should I take my clubs and play a round or two? Is there anywhere close to this little community where I can play?

Thanks for you Help

Sure, bring your clubs. There are a number of courses pretty near and loads within a reasonable drive. You could easily reach Celtic Manor, venue for the 2010 Ryder Cup, for example.

Almost all golf clubs in the area (and the UK in general) accept visitors, so you will certainly get a game.

Just made my day Mjtoal! Questions now come in bunches....

What's the weather like in October/November?
Is it easier to fly into Birmingham or London to get there?
Is there a web listing of courses in the area?
My spouse is a non-golfer, are there lots of things to do there she would be interested other than looking over the local pitches? :)

Weather is variable. October can be pretty good, with nice dry days and decent temperatures. The Ryder Cup was held in the first week of October last year. As we get in to November, it can certainly get colder and wetter, but many UK golfers play right through the winter. It is very unusual to get snow in November.

Flights into Birmingham or London are much of a muchness. It is a bit of a trek from either, really. Heathrow is a better choice if flying into London. If you choice is London Gatwick or Stansted or Birmingham, I would probably choose Birmingham.

Listing: Try this http://www.ukgolfgui...gloucestershire Other adjacent counties are also worth a look.

Wifely things: Depends a bit on transport, but a day wandering around Oxford or Bath might be fun. Lots of old crumbling buildings to see and much afternoon tea to be had and as an American, you will not feel out of place in either!

If we come I may well be burning a ton of FF miles on United. I think they only fly into Heathrow, with other Star alliance guys flying to Birmingham from the continent.

I sure hope we can go. Some of the courses would be great to play, and to look over Oxford would be a pleasure, but then where I live, going to Columbus, Ohio is a big deal!.
