Plain English Difference between Diamana Shafts

Red and Blue and Bassara ???
I am considering a Diamana shaft. I have a Titleist 905r 9.5 with an NV 65s and I love it. I just sampled a 905r 10.5 with an NVS65S and it ballooned up and looked great but didn't go as far as the 9.5 with NV65S. My general ball flight is straight with a slightly lower ball flight than others I play with.

Which Diamana is for me? I hit it 250-270 and I am a smaller guy, 5'8" 160lb. My driver swing speed is between 95-100. I would describe my swing as slow and smooth.

Will dropping $200-300 gain me any distance / accuracy? Or is this throwing good money down the drain chasing the dream?

I am thinking about one of the Diamana 63g shafts, either red or blue. But I have no clue which is right for me. Guessing on the weight, 63g vs 73g. The NV is mid 60s.

If I had to pick right now, I would choose red 63g.

The shaft's site says this...

http://mitsubishirayongolf.com/tour.php

Mitsubishi Rayon Shafts :

Diamana Blue Board : For the player who wants a stronger ball flight and an extremely stable feel.

Diamana Red Board : For the player who wants a more active tip section and slightly higher trajectory.

Bassara : A shaft that works for tour players and aspiring amateurs alike.

I need a real world answer from real users. Thanks for deciphering and helping me out.

Simply put explination from my experienceis this: The redboard is a good shaft that gives a little higher trajectory and more spin. Easier for many to turn over due to the softer tip but is primarily played in a fairway wood with best results. The blueboard is one of the more anti-left shafts I have used and is an extremely stable yet smooth shaft. Better for higher swing speeds or people who tend to miss left. Not too much experience with the bassara but from hitting it about 10 times, I hated the shaft. It felt loose and didn't respond well to an increase in speed. Felt it lagging the whole way. Again, this is just my experience so take it for what it is worth, but in my opinion, unless you tend to miss left, go with the redboard 63 or 73. The 73 is also under 70 grams in a stiff flex and I believe the extra couple of grams would provide a slightly better, less head heavy feel. Hope this helps and feel free to PM me with anything else if need be. Thanks, Milo

This is an easy one. With your description, you should be using a Diamana Red. If your swing is smooth, with a good transition from your backswing, the Red should load perfectly for you. The Blue seems to take a slightly more aggressive swing. Back in the day, I could swing out of my shoes with the Blue, and it would always keep up. The Red is an absolute canon when I stay smooth and controlled.

My natural flight is on the low-side from where it should be. I always played the Blue and even with 10.5* of loft, I needed just a bit more. The Red was the ticket. As far as weight, I prefer the 73 gr, but I've got you by 4 " and 25 lbs. The 63 might work for you.

Remember, the bore-thru will change the flex slightly. My R's are built with full insertion to play just stiffer than stiff. If you really want one built to your specs by the master, you should look into contacting Joe Kwok. He'll talk through your specs and he builds just fantastic stuff. He's putting a Red 83 in my 906 next.

If you a re going to spend $200+ on a shaft, and you are hitting your current one well, I would have a fitting before you do anything.

Neither Diamana may suit you, your NV may be the perfect shaft... who knows?

Unless you're playing for money to put food on the table you're throwing your money down the crapper.

Please explain this one.

Easy, unless you are a touring professional chances are spending 200+ dollars on a shaft is not going to improve your driving enough to notice. He would be better off being fitted by a professional clubfitter with a $75 shaft. Now, if you have money to burn and want to buy a Diamana just for the sake of buying one, go for it.

The extent of my money game is a $50 game on Friday afternoons.

I got "fitted" at Edwin Watts, I took my 9.5 NV65S in. They told me I needed the 10.5 with NVS to get the ball higher. That the kick point on the NV was wrong for me.

They were wrong, ball flight looked good at first then it ballooned and fell straight down, too much spin and loft.

Like many, I would pay 200 for 5-10 extra consistent yards. I am that sucked in. Unfortunately, that can probably not be bought.

See this thread

The extra 10yds you're looking for isn't guaranteed. If you love your current setup, don't mess with it you're more than likely to regret it.
