Hunting vs Golf Range finders

Any difference?

Just debating on whether to invest in a rangefinder.

Looking at the Callaway Nikon lr550, and noticed that there is a hunting model the Nikon prostaff-550.
Is there any difference in the technology and the specs? They almost look identical.
The only difference to me seems to be the price $250 vs $175, color (yellow vs green) and the accessories that come with it (the golf one comes with a cover and holder vs the hunting one only comes with a lanyard).
I've heard that you should get the golf specific model as it enables you to pick up the pin and flag better.
Is this true?

I've got the hunting version of the Bushnell 1500. The "Bulls-eye" mode is just as effective as the pinseeker mode in the 1500.

no difference..."Golf" version just costs more.


anyone want a Bushnell Scout 1000 for $100 plus shipping, pm me. Almost new, used a couple rounds. Includes cover.

there was just a thread about this. the hunting version if presented with multiple targets in the scan area, chooses the longest one (for animals that might be behind brush, trees, etc). the golf version chooses the nearest one (IE flagstick with trees behind green). Same hardware, different internal programming.

+1..... Some models have no difference, like the old Bushnell scout and the V2, but these models do have a big difference with their programmed priority modes that cannot be changed. You want something with first target priority mode or the like.
