Jacksonville & TPC Sawgrass

Hey Florida WRX'ers! I'll be heading to Jacksonville for a few rounds at the TPC Sawgrass courses in early July and was wondering if you guys have any suggestions. Any "have to do" or "have to see" things while we are in Jacksonville & Ponte Vedra Beach area? We won't have a rental car, so will likely be getting around via taxi.

Understand that the World Golf Hall of Fame at St. Augustine is nearby, or at least relatively.

Suggestions for non-golf related things are welcome as well. Any very popular restaurants that you recommend in the area?

Anybody have anything? Any help, tips, etc would he helpful.

We're about 3 weeks away now and have added a twilight round and King & Bear. Their website has a hole by hole preview of the course and it looks like there's a lot of water all over the course.

Thanks Oldschooltarheel! We're playing the Dye Valley in the morning and twilight at the King & Bear one day. Playing the Stadium course the other two days we'll be there. We've been keeping an eye on the blog that the TPC Sawgrass course has online since their maintnenance started last week.

Although I grew up in Hawaii, I've been a Tarheel basketball fan since the mid 80's.

A great place for dinner is Stonewood Grill. There are 2 locations in the Jax area, in town or beachside. They have great food and service, but it can get pricey (25-75 pp depending on drinks, apps, desserts). Check out their site http://www.stonewoodgrill.com/ Ive eaten there about 20 times and have never been dissatisfied with the food.

Also, Jax has a bunch a good breakfast/brunch/lunch places around including the Metro Diner which was featured on the food network. http://metrodiner.com/

I played the TPC course about 5 years ago and it was fantastic. It can be challenging at times but very fun. The 17th hole is crazy and intimidating. Luckily, I knew a guy who worked at the resort, and we got a free round. Be ready for heat and humidity (and an afternoon thunderstorm) as summer is all ready in full affect here in FL.

If you are looking for a good time out at night, I would check out Jax beach. Pretty relaxed and less urban compared to downtown. You can probably catch some live music and find some good bars. Or you could go downtown to Jacksonville Landing. Its on the river and has a great outdoor music venue. The area is new and really nice, but it is one of those typical cookie cutter nice downtown venues that have been sprouting up. Its newer and has less "character" than the beachside. If you are staying at the resort this might be more of your scene.
