D.C. and Baltimore Golf

Coming to D.C. and Baltimore for vacation the first week of August. Have been granted 2 rounds from the boss. I want to play one round in D.C. and one round in Baltimore. I am a member at a local club and the pro can possibly help get onto a private course in either city. I am open to all possibilities but want to play nice tracks. What are your thoughts?

Public: Lake Presidential

It's been a few years since I've played these, but I liked Worthington Manor, Whiskey Creek and Waverly Woods. If you can drive North of Baltimore a little bit there is Bulle Rock.

Baltimore: Caves Valley or Baltimore CC at Five Farms
DC: Chevy Chase Club, TPC Avenel, Bethesda CC

Forget Lake Presidential. All of the other publics would be very good choices.

Any of the Privates mentioned by Stuckntx would be a nice on.

Definitely skip Lake Presidential. That place is way overpriced for what is basically a golf course in the middle of a real estate development. The problem is that the real estate development isn't finished yet, so you will get to enjoy a round with the sounds of heavy construction equipment, back-up beepers, and the occasional dust storm that rivals those in Saudi Arabia.

For your Baltimore course I would suggest making the trip about 45 minutes north and hitting Bulle Rock. It's the best public course in Maryland by a longshot and makes for a good day of golf.

The best of the best right there. Public golf in Maryland doesn't get much better than those (yes I know RF is in Virginia, but it's close enough to be annexed

As for worst...my vote goes to Trotters Glen lol.

Sadly yes. I had my first experience with it on the 4th. A buddy of mine wanted to play on the cheap and Maple Run seemed like a good choice. Neither of us had ever heard of it before, but in the description it said that Bill Clinton had played there (he must have had a major golf itch while at Camp David). It was so bad it became comical. One tee box was literally covered with broken tees. It was like standing on shards of glass. There was a fairway bunker that had three foot high grass growing out of it and a huge groundhog hole in it. All of the bunkers were so bad you couldn't hit out of them. We instituted a free drop rule from the bunkers. I've also never had so many close calls with getting hit by balls. They seemed to be flying from every direction. You really couldn't miss a fairway since all of the grass was mowed to the same height.

When I was in high school I learned the game at an old par 3 course in Howard County called Font Hill. It is long gone and was a real dog track, but it looked like Augusta compared to this place.

I'd definitely say Bulle Rock, but for half the price you can get out at Greystone.

Bulle Rock...hands down. Good luck geeting into Caves...a second club for the uber wealthy.

Bulle Rock is definitely the place to play near Baltimore. If you can get onto a private course in the DC area, try to get on Creighton Farms. Its about a 45 minutes to an hour drive west of DC but it is def a place to play IF you can get on. Not sure how good your hook ups are. Public place to play near DC, I would say Worthington Manor, Old Hickory, or Stonewall.
