Northeast Michigan Golf?

Never done it...

In August, the family and I are heading to Grand Lake (between Alpena and Rogers City) for a week of staying at a cottage, swimming, fishing, etc.

But hopefully there will be some golf for me involved in our vacation. But I have never played golf in that area of the state. I know there is a decent course in Oscoda and Elk Rapids, but that is too far.

I am looking for no more than an hour from Grand Lake - Looks like just a few options. any opinions on:

Thunder Bay
Black Lake
Stony Links

Is there anything in Alpena? Anything else up that way.

Not really familiar with the area as I vacation south of there a bit. But if you dont mind stretching your drive just a bit longer than an hour I would highly suggest going to White Pine National Golf Resort. The place is fantastic! It is about 1.5 hrs south of Grand Lake in Spruce, MI

It's probably just over an hour drive, but Garland Resort is west of Alpena in Lewiston. The have 4 -18 hole courses to choose from. We go every year for 3 days and stay on site. They've just redone all their bunkers and the greens are supposed to be really nice this year. May want to check it out.

I am a member at thunder bay and live in hillman so I am familiar with the surrounding courses. Alpena has 2 courses, a city course and rivers edge which is nicer. Rogers city course is close to you. Hillman has thunder bay. Onaway has 2 courses. Stoney links which is blah and black lake which is very nice. Oscoda is probably close to 90 minutes from grand lake. Lewiston has garland which is very nice. And gaylord has so many beautiful courses.
