Where to take lessons in San Diego?

I'm moving to San Diego in a little under 3 weeks, and I'm looking to start taking lessons when we move. I'm moving from the east coast, so I don't know anything about the golfing community in SD, other than the fact that there are a ton of courses, and several major manufacturers located there.

 

Could anyone recommend some good places to contact about lessons? Also, I think my fiance is going to take lessons as well. Individual or double/group lessons would be ok. We will be living downtown, so the closer to downtown the better.

 

 

Also, if anyone is willing to suffer through a round with a high handicapper, I'll need new people to play with!

Hey J-rod,

Stadium golf is off the 15 fwy and is not far from downtown, maybe 10-15 mins. They have a great facility and a good staff of teaching pros. They may have deals for group lessons, but I'd check out their website to be sure.

If you ever wanna get out, let me know. I'm a 9 handicap.

+1 on Stadium Golf... nice place. They have grass sometimes, too, but their site lets you know when that portion of the range is open/closed. Out of curiosity, what brings you out here from Charlottesville? I have friends that went to UVA, although I'm a Hokie. Nice area, though!

My fiance and I just graduated from law school at UVA, and she accepted a position with a firm in San Diego. Hard to say no to 70 & sunny.

Seriously. I basically followed my wife out here, too. She grew up out here and we were looking for a place to move after college. She got in to grad school at SDSU. Sooo... always sunny San Diego, or extreme temperatures back east? Easy decision.

Congrats on graduating from law school. I went to law school at USD and practice at a civil defense firm downtown. I'd definitely check out Stadium. Although it doesn't always have grass, the short game area is excellent. I also took a lesson there a long time ago from a guy named Mike and he was pretty good. Good luck with the Bar exam!

I'm actually taking the bar exam in Feb. I was set to go into the Army as a judge advocate, so I had arranged to take a different bar exam. Then at the last minute I decided to forgo my commission and follow her to SD instead, so that threw the timing off for the Cali bar.

If anyone knows of an job openings, I'd love to hear about them! I'm currently on the job hunt! I studied business and political science as an undergraduate, and have a J.D. from a top law school.

Side Note: Trying to find a job from 3000 miles away sucks! Hopefully it will go quicker once I'm in San Diego and can network.

I worked at Sea N Air when I first moved to San Diego when I just needed ANY sort of income... must've been about five years ago now. Nice course, and it was before they supposedly redesigned the entire thing. I enjoyed the back nine quite a bit - very fun to play along the ocean! Count me in for a Wrx outing!

Same for me - the earlier the better, and there's no such thing as 'too early'. I'm a certified dew sweeper.

All of you crazy early morning people! I just got out of school, so I don't know anything about the world before 8am.


But I would play some early morning outings, and I'm also aware of the need to get my city card, so I'll be doing that shortly after we move. Although, it might be awkward at Balboa as one of the golf pros there asked my fiance' out last summer . . . stalked her in Starbucks for a couple of weeks each morning, and then asked her out.

We leave VA in 2 weeks, and then it's a cross-country drive . . .

I'd go with Justin Hicks at Stadium. He was ranked as a top 50 instructor in California according to my Golf Digest (or Golf) magazine. I went to him about a month ago and he was great. Any luck on the job hunt?

Well, I've been working for 4 months now, so I finally have some time to play golf again. Got my first lesson coming up shortly, and plan on spending plenty of time at the range! Loving these San Diego "winters" too!
