IMO, you are looking at the wrong clubs. At a 10, you need some forgivness. I know most will say that "my 10 is due to my short game" but, that is not really feasible. If you are a good ball striker, you will hit enough greens to play considerably better, short game or not. Out of the three sets, I would recommend the 755s. They are pretty forgiving and you should do OK with them. I just think there are some better options out there.

You mention better options but don't provide any. Other than X-Tours what is recommended? Please don't say MX-23/25 as I don't like the look of the "skirt" sticking out under the club.

For what it's worth, I have played with 704's, liked them but were stolen so I went with X-18s for something newer and different.

I personally think the X-18, Taylormade R7, Cleveland CG4 or Titleist 775 would be better options. All are relatively easy to hit, are workable enough for a handicaped golfer and look pretty good. Out of the four, I prefer the Titleist. They feel great and the long irons are very easy to hit. The short irons are also very controllable. Good luck.

Thanks. I too prefer Titleist and like the feel of the 775 but the looks really turn me off. Not so much the red but the metallic swirls. To each, his own I guess.

I have considered selling the 735s and keeping what I have. Most likely, since they are found money, I'll break the seal, play em and see for myself.

To be honest, EBay makes it tough on me as I know I have an outlet. A few years ago I wouldn't even consider this option.

I appreciate the input. Moe

If you are going to do that, I would recommend selling them and buying the 755s. You will probably be happier with them. I play with the 735.CM and they are not very forgiving. I am a low single digit, a decent ball striker and I am still looking for another set to play with for a while. If you get rid of the X-18s, let me know and I will take them off of your hands. Good Luck!!

I had an interesting experience at a Titleist Demo day here in Australia a couple of weeks ago.

Went to try the 755's... unfortunatley they didn't have any demo's in the country - hmmm

I'm playing off 12 and initially thought the 755's or 775's would suit me. Tried the 775's, hated

the look of them, didn't feel great and didn't get a great ball flight, tried the old 704's, couldn't

stand them either.

Just for the experience I tried the 695CB's - which from the marketing leads you to believe that they're

condusive to a lower ball flight... I hit them about the same height as the 804 (go figure).

For even more of an experience and just to try out a blade, I tried the 695 mb's, they felt ok,

but not great.

Last but not least, for a real experience, I tried the 660 irons - my god, they looked great, and with the

4, 6 and 9 irons gave me the best ball striking out of the whole lot. I could even manufacture a little draw with these (not my normal ball flight).

I'm still waiting for the 755's to arrive to try them out, but if I had to pick what works best for me... at the moment I'd go with the 660's.

Possibly it's because of the slightly wider sole, the look, the CG position... who knows, but these things worked for me, against all so called wisdom and marketing claims that they're only for the highly skilled player.

By the way, all clubs were all the same specs.

So my lesson from this, is to try as many clubs as you can, no matter what common sense or the marketing may tell you - we've all got different swings, we all like the look of different things, and it's just a matter of trying and finding what works best for you.

  • 2 weeks later...

I own both and here's my analysis. I really like both of them, but think the 755 will win in the long run, just a touch more forgiving and confidence at address. The 735's are great, love the feel of the chrome, but they need my full attention and in the end I think they are just a bit above my playing ability. (I play to a 7 index)

The only thing I dislike on the 755s is the stock trispec shaft, on their way back to titleist for DG S300s, then I'll be able to do an apples to apples comparison.

good luck

Guys, if you are a single digit or close to it, then you should be able to play with the 735's. They are not that hard to hit. Usually the difference between a 7 and a 10 is not ballstriking, but course management and short game. That being said, I would get the 755's just for the slight forgiveness difference. The 735's are easier to work lt. or rt., but the 755 long irons are very easy to hit.
