The best courses to play in 4 days

Hey Guys,

Me and my friends have just finalized our first annual golf trip, and have settled on Nashville,TN. Although we have the dates and hotel all set, we havent the slightest as far as the golf goes. Which is where you guys can hopefully assist.

We are staying for 4 days, Thursday-Sunday and are looking for 4-6 Golf courses. We arent too familiar with the area, and so if you could lend any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. We are all pretty young and dont mind a short drive, or a little bit of a steep greens fee. Any suggestion is appreciated.

The Hermitage has two golf courses the presidential is the nicest. Gaylord springs is probably the most well known. The best value is the legacy just north of Nashville.

Here are my recommendations in order of preference:

1. Hermitage Golf Course - President's Reserve (Hermitage, TN)
2. Greystone Golf Club (Dickson, TN)
3. The Club at Foxland Harbor (Gallatin, TN)
4. Hermitage Golf Course - General's Retreat (Hermitage, TN)
5. Gaylord Springs Golf Links (Nashville, TN)
6. King's Creek Golf Club (Spring Hill, TN)
7. The Legacy of Springfield (Springfield, TN)

All of them are within a reasonable drive from downtown Nashville.

I'd throw in a vote for the Legacy.. You can get really great rates on golfnow too.

Very good list here. I wouldn't miss Hermitage, Greystone or Foxland.

I've played Foxland a few times this year, and I have enjoyed it every time.

Not too far away down Murfreesboro way are Old Fort(best value in the state) and Indian Hills(nice fast greens). You will want to call Old Fort on Monday at 0700am for a Saturday am tee time and Tuesday at 0700am for a Sunday am tee time. Week days should be okay for tee times.

Old Fort is a very good public, municipal style course, but isn't one I would recommend for a vacation "got to play."

Indian Hills is always in mediocre condition. The greens always seem to be struggling and the rest of the course just feels rough. I put it below Old Fort on my list.

+1 I played Old Fort last week and is in great shape but I would no doubt play the Nashville courses first

Mr Lebanon tn golfer. Then admit that you have not played these two tracks lately. I would put these two courses(esp Old Fort) on top of any golf course (at this time in Middle TN) has having the best playing conditions around(unless you go private). I play them every week as well as some others and these two courses present the best conditions at the best rate than any course listed above! By the way, Engine Hills greens are rolling very nice and try and go play on the weekend walking for $30.00(Old Fort) and beat this value. Name me a course around this area that can beat that value and I will buy you a beer. The only way would be on Golfnow.com but no beer for that.

We aren't talking about the value for a local wanting to play. This topic is about the OP and his buddies coming in for a golfing vacation, and neither Old Fort nor Indian Hills rank anywhere close to being a "must play" course. I stand by my original list as the ranking for public accessible courses that visitors to the Nashville area should play.

And, yes, I have played both courses recently. The conditions on both were fine, but nowhere near excellent. I enjoy playing both courses, but I also don't recall ever playing a course and not liking it.

Another area you may want to consider is Crossville,TN. Its about an hour and 1/2 easy drive on I-40 East of Nashville. You will find some courses and great deals on both accomodations and golf if you stay a few nights. One area would be Fairfield Glade. They have great deals going on and the golf is excellent as you can choose between about 3-5 really nice courses. Most of these courses beat anything on that list provided by another local wxer. The Crossville,TN area deams itself the golf capitol of TN. Have a great time!

I'm driving up from Atlanta for work in Nashville Friday morning/early afternoon but would like to stop off for 18 on/near the way home. Any suggestions for a reasonably quick (3.5-4 hour at most) Friday afternoon round? Old Fort appears to be closest to I-24.
