Sun Mountain Zero-G Bag

Looking into getting it, Any comments or Evaluations?

Hi folks!

Maybe I'm tired of my old bags, but I am thinking hard abut replacing my Sun Mountain 3.5 (made for a LH player) and MPB bags, and getting a Sun Mountain Zero-G bag. However, there are no real evaluations from users I have found, even on this fountainhead of information at GolfWrx.

Anyone ever use this bag?

Is this hip belt useful, or is it a PITA so it mostly hangs there uselessly?

I can't find a single image online of a person using the hip strap. Any images?

I've used backpacks in the past with hip-belts and it's a noticeably nicer feel with the weight mostly on the hips.

I too am interested in this bag, however on sale it is still more than $60 more than another I am looking at. I'm interested in the carry features AND the waterproof pocket it has. I looked for a demo or pic as well of how the strap works and found nothing.

I have a zero-g bag and love it. The Belly Strap that holds the bag up really helps reduce the weight on your shoulders. I have the original model which came out two years ago so I am not sure what they added to the new model this year. The only draw back to the bag is that it is not water resistant. If it rains everything in the bag gets soaked because the material is so thin. The waterproof poket does work if you need to put valuables in it though.

I didn't see them on Sun Mountain's website earlier this year so I thought they got rid of the line. It wasn't till after I read your post did I check the website again and saw that they added them back to the line up for this year.

I just picked one up. I haven't been on the course with it yet but it feels very similar to my old 3.5. I probably won't try the waist strap, I really like having just two dividers, I think it cuts down on the chatter.

I have one. It is an amazing little bag. I had the 2010 Sun Mountain Four5 that split time with the Sun Mountain MCB I used on my microcart occasionally.

Thing is, my trunk only has so much room (I keep a lot of work gear in the trunk), and I keep my golf bag in there ALL the time, as I'm ready to golf at a moment's notice. I quickly gave up lugging around the MicroCart and MCB full time.

I had a Four5 that I enjoyed, but as we all know, the inherent poor design of the foot mechanism on the pre 2011 Four5's and Three5's all had the same problem. It stuck out so much, you couldn't ever fit it when riding in a cart properly. That's what always bothered me about the pre-2011 Four5 bags. I was looking for something with a smaller footprint, and since I liked my previous Sun Mountain Mini, i figured I'd try the SM Swift ZG. (My SM mini with the 7" opening and a 4 way divider, which I believe is a 2009 vintage, could handle 9-10 clubs, at most. Any more, and it would completely jam. You couldn't even pull 2 clubs out of any of the four "X" openings at the same time.).

Enter the Swift ZG. I've been hearing nothing but good things about the swift. I belong on another board, and post there daily, and several very active posters swear by it. I had to try it with all that hype.

My conclusions about my bag.

No clattering when walking around the course. I keep all my irons on the bottom shelf, and all the rest of the clubs on the top. I carry a Ping driver, 4 wood, 7 wood , 4 hybrid, and a Spider Ghost. Those are a lot of headcovers, and they fit just fine. The openings (only a single divider) just happen to work because both openings are wide and tall. You WILL have some club tangle. Anyone that says otherwise is lying. The club tangle doesn't bother me so much as the fact that I wish the bag had ONE more pocket. Maybe they could've added a smaller pouch on the outside garment bag. As it stands, it has 5 pouches. I carry a laser rangefinder and balls in the ball pocket. I keep my tees, ball markers (coins) and divot repair tool in the velour lined pouch directly above the ball pouch. That leaves the outer garment pouch, and the inside zippered pouch with the water bottle sleeve built onto it.

Anyways, it is a really light bag that works really well for walking, and the belt alleviates some of the weight by resting it on your hips, kind of like camping backpacks.

All this said, if my Sun Mountain Four5 had the cart friendly bottom like the current model lineup, I would've kept it, and I wouldn't be writing this review. I don't regret buying this bag, but I could be just as happy playing ANY of SM's bags...so while it is a great bag, I am not opposed to switching if I had to do it.

One thing. The bag works great as a carry bag. As a cart bag, I've experienced a LOT of club tangle and jamming. Enough to recommend against it if you ride most of your rounds. If you walk more than 80% of your rounds it is a great bag.

I have been using this bag for a year and this is great. I like to carry my bag and my course is quite hilly. The belt helps rellieve back pains for me and it's much appreciated
