Right foot during pre/post impact?

Does it stay on the ground?
Tried looking for a similar post but couldn't find anything to satisfy my curiosity...I am right handed, and want to know what your right foot is supposed to be doing before and after impact.

Should it stay on the ground until you have made contact? Is this a big flaw or am I making a big deal out of nothing?

I am tweaking my swing to be one-plane and I know you’re supposed to have a very stable base throughout the swing (no sway or shift). I’ve worked on keeping my right knee flexed, but I just want to know about my right foot.

Regards,
Tyler

I believe that it should stay on the ground. The reason that I think that it should be on the ground is that it will keep your hips from getting too far in front. I suffer from this. When my right foot comes up it allows my hips to push too far forward and then I lose my posture. After impact it should come up and at the finish you should be on the toe.

The right foot? Yes, on the ground until the ball is gone. In some circumstances, a slight lifting of the left heel on the backswing to help make a fuller turn is okay. But the right foot should pretty much remain stationary until after your hips release. I would think any sort of lifting of the right foot during the backswing would be a ticket to a reverse pivot.

When I started up again last spring, my drives were going at least 50 yards further than when I stopped in the fall of 2005. I wasn't sure what I was doing differently until my club pro came out and talked to me one day. He told me that I was kind of jumping into the ball to get my weight to help force my body to turn faster and with more power. It worked well and everything, but it made me very inconsistent. So since then I've learned a few new tricks to regain some of that power and remain consistent.

Soooooo...does that mean keeping your right foot on the ground helped? Did he give you any thoughts/tips to help keep your foot on the ground?

One size doesn't fit everyone. I've seen good ball strikers with their right heel flat, right foot rolled to the left, and right heel well off the ground. What you do with your right heel depends on what you are trying to accomplish in your swing. If you need to quiet your body in the downswing to remain sychronized, try keeping the right heel down. If you need to speed your weight transfer to the left side, try pushing off the right foot which will bring the heel up and the right knee toward the ball.

Yes, he did give me some advice to stay still and maintain some power. He told me to get a little bit of extra power, flex my right knee towards my left knee kind of. That's hard to explain but its pretty much just pointing your right knee at you left knee...and to help keep my feet on the ground, right before I take my back swing, I shift my weight to my heels. It helps a lot and it even seems to relax me a little more. If you're having any trouble with keeping your lower body quiet, I'd try those tips. And you may not want to hear this but, if you are jumping into the ball, it might take a little getting used to. You might hit a few more shots fat that you normally would because you're not used to being the same height as with your feet planted on the ground...hope this works out for you!
