I've been looking for two days and can't find a copper with that many extra metals in it. Most copper only has a few other metals in it. It's *almost* got me believing he might have some sort of copper bars made with additives, but I just can't believe he would spend the kind of money that' would be required just to have a marketing term. It's got to be some sort of off the shelf copper I haven't found yet.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think his special sauce is making miracle bars, I'm just curious and want to figure out what it really is. Anyone good friends with Bob B? Since he did the first ones he probably knows. 🙂

 

Lots of metals are not pure. They all have some others mixed in for varying reasons. Most people don't have 24k Gold. They wear alloys.

The inventors of this are Scotty Cameron (Don T Cameron) and August L Slivnik. It is assigned to Acushnet. Slivnik is the owner of Black Oxide Services. They used to do all of Scotty's milling and a lot of their original finishes (oil can, black oxide, triple black, misted stainless, etc.). The link to the patent is listed below for those who want to look at it. This is what the patent says:

 

"In the preferred embodiment, the insert is made of a tellurium copper alloy, which is a relatively soft alloy that improves the touch and feel of the club. In the preferred embodiment, the tellurium copper alloy includes a minimum of 99.4% copper, a maximum of 0.004-0.012 ppm of phosphorus and a maximum of 0.4--0.7 ppm of tellurium, and has a hardness of approximately 80 HB."

tellurium is on of those copper alloys where you may need characteristics of copper but you also need it to be machinable and hard (there are quite a few more of them these days as well) 

 

BeCu USED to be the go to (and is still sold actually) but the whole beryllium dust killing you thing has made it less popular these days. 
 

both of them are expensive as all hell (I’ve gotten some quotes on TeCu and it’s is insanely pricey) 

 

but yah old Don would have specifically used it because it’s got great machinability and it’s hard enough to resist denting 
 

but at the end of the day like manganese Bronze and beryllium copper, it’s just too expensive to use versus the advantages it offers. Well beryllium copper died out because it causes you to die out but it’s also reallllllyyyyy expensive for

Just got it.. it is an incredibly unique feeling/sounding putter. It is very soft off the face but has a higher pitched sound. I need to extend it a touch but am very pleased I finally got one. I actually would say it’s a touch softer than my milled Cameron classic NP.
