Birdied 16 to get to 1 under on the round, proceeded to double bogey 17 to censored it all up, time to get drunk.

So might not be able to golf when I'm in socal. Toddnt what's the Bruery store like? Any chance of me picking up something rareish that I won't find at the store.

Bruery is always tough for me since I'm not a sour guy at all and that eliminates alot of their beers.

They make amazing mead. I've had most of their retail offerings, Tahitian honeymoon was a fantastic vanilla bean Mead. They range from sweet to dry, kind of the same scale as a reisling white wine. I think they are doing a tasting at another place in sa diego tonight too via their Facebook pge

Yep tasting tonight at downtown Johnny Browns

So the I-10 closure has kinda thrown a kink in our plans for grandmas services. Looks like we will be staying with some relatives in Escondido and driving up to San Dimas from there. That will let us take I-8 from PHX to bypass I-10. Ill be getting in late Friday night, services Sat early aft followed by dinner. Obviously beer is not the most important part of this trip but I will have a few times I can break away to partake in the malty goodness. Looking for some insight from the San Diego (north county) crowd

Here is what I have lined up beer wise

Sat stop by Fullerton beverage before the service should be right on the way. Hopefully I can call in advance and they can pull my order so I can pay and run.

Firestone Reserve series Parabola Sucuba, Stickee and Anniversary all available as of today Also Pliny and BA Narwhal & Ba Old Rasputin

Later Sat night
Thinking about stopping by Stone Tap Room for a couple draughts Sat night to reflect on the day and unwind a tad

Sunday early afternoon
Thinking about hitting up Lost Abbey and Port for Lunch and a couple tasters (yeah for my girlfriend driving)
Hit Alesmith on the way out of town to see what they have

Here is the kicker Lost Abbey/Port does not have a current tap list online so it is a gamble as to what they will have, where as Alesmiths current tap list looks really good BA Speedway and a cask version, old numbskull etc etc

Questions I have are should I be looking at anything else that is in the area? Is there food at either tasting room at the breweries? If not what are some good pubs that we can get lunch at? What if any bottle shops should I hit up? Already found holiday wine cellar which looks promising.

Thanks

Cracked this open last night to share with my FIL and was very satisfied with what I got. Rich, malty sweetness with some alcohol burn, but I didn't get a whole lot of coffee taste. Seemed stronger than the content indicated, but maybe I was tired. Definitely a slow sipping beer either way.

Hardywood is doing some solid things! Expanding into a much larger facility west of Richmond soon.

Definitely. I've liked the coffee stout and raspberry stout previously, and now this. I have one more bottle of the sidamo and a bourbon barrel barleywine that I've yet to open. They have a peach tripel out now that I will probably pick up soon too.

Was in the Hardywood pub last week and very impressed with everything I had including the Sidamo. They also have an Oyster Stout that was very good.

VA is starting to get some love from expansion. Green Flash, Stone, Ballast Point, with Sierra Nevada, Oskar Blues, and New Holland just south in Asheville. And the home grown ones are staying strong with Hardywood and Devils Back Bone.

Pic below is the mothership in Mills River!!! (My 12 year old said it's like Disney for dad!)

LOL so true.

And don't forget that in VA we can buy most of this at the grocery store too. :)

Well, the good ones that carry craft beers at least.

Have any of you guys been to bruisin ales in Asheville lately? I have a co-worker that's stopping by later today and said he would grab some stuff for me, so I'm fishing for ideas
Was in there a few weeks ago. Solid selection of stuff, but didn't have anything super rare unfortunately. On the other end of Biltmore Ave is Appalachian Vintner that might have a larger selection as well as 10 taps for drinking there or growler fills.

Well won't be using UPS again my package to drive4sho made it about 12 miles before it was destroyed and thrown out. Will not be refunded anything for the contents which I expected and fighting to have my shipping costs refunded thought that would be easy.

This poor trade has been cursed from the start.

Edit/Rant: not sure what is worse UPS customer service or UPS Store customer service. It is looking like I basically paid $32 to have package go <12 miles and be destroyed. All I am getting is a runaround.

That sux cuz I've shipped beer with them before without issue... Stupid question, but how was the packing?
Legit. Each bottle/can individually bubble wrapped and placed into a 1 gallon Ziploc bag padding on bottom top and side of box. Even if a can or bottle exploded it would have been contained by the ziploc bags

My favorite beer season of the year is among us..... Oktoberfest/Octoberfest/Marzen season.

I'm as die-hard a hophead as you'll find, but if i could only drink one style of beer the rest of my life it would be OFests. They are simply the epitome of beer, in my humble opinion. And rumor is the Sierra Nevada Collaboration Oktoberfest is starting to hit my market..... YES.
