Where to play and work on my game

I'm going to be in Santa Monica for an entire week this month, and I plan on playing everyday I'm there. I'm looking for one or two courses where I can play several times. It has to have a great range and a good course. I really want to use that week to chip the winter rust off my game. Any ideas?

Most nice courses in the area are private. There is Rancho Park (a muni in west LA), which is Ok, but nothing else decent in the immediate vicinity.

As already stated, not a lot of public courses near Santa Monica. However, if you are willing to drive a bit, there are plenty outside of LA. I typically golf Wilshire CC around here, but it is a private course. Rancho Park is public, but you may end up with a 5 hour 9 hole round depending on what time you go. You could try Wilson/Harding. The range is decent and the courses are average...not great, but not bad either. However, that is in the Los Feliz/Griffith Park area and about a 25-30 minute drive (due to traffic) from where you are.

While not particularly close to Santa Monica, it is relatively nearby (in LA terms) and certainly worth at least one visit is Rustic Canyon in MoorPark. Outstanding course.
