Tucson vistoso/Starr pass/Az National

Hello,

Heading to Tucson for WGC matchplay. Considering Vistoso vs Starr pass vs AZ national all with excellent discount prices. Midhandicap golfer. What do you guys think?

Starr Pass is in great shape but narrow! I love it though. Vistoso is a great track and in good shape as well, it is also close to the match play. Arizona National, I am biased I played my High school golf there, is a beautiful course. And is in great shape. They just had the Colliegate invitationals there. Course is tough but hard to beat the views looking back up into the mountains and down into the valley. Doesnt matter what you pick you already won. I will say, they use to play a PGA tour event at Starr Pass. If that means anything. Feel free to PM me with questions

I've played Starr Pass, but it was back in 2003. If it's in as good shape now as it was then...it should be a strong contender for you.

Thanks so much for replying. Can be wild off the tee, worried about Starr Pass, but must be a beauty. Vistoso and AZ national sound great but got wind that both have poor conditions after new management, but sounds like that must be incorrect based on what you are saying....

I lived in Phoenix for 4 years and drove down to AZ National 4 or 5 times. It's an excellent course, but does have some demanding tee shots if you are not the most accurate. I did love the course though and I think you would enjoy it. I played Starr Pass back before they redesigned it and at the time it was one of the toughest courses I had ever played. I think they softened it up a little bit since then and made it more playable now.

We stayed at Starr Pass and played all three nines. The first time around it was very daunting, but still as beautiful as you can get for a true desert course, IMO. The conditions were great and greens were absolutely spectacular! I asked one of the pros if the bermuda greens were the new Champion strain as we couldn't find any grain...he advised that they were BENT greens! Out of the three nines the Coyote was the most challenging but the one we liked the best. Unfortunately we only played that nine on our last day...we're pining about getting another shot at it!
