Vegas Golf

I'm heading out to Vegas for the weekend of November 2-5 and was looking for a little advice. I know there are a lot of nice courses out there but as we know course conditions at courses change.

So, what courses should I look to play and which courses should I avoid at his time of year???

I just came back from Vegas and we played the Badlands. It is an excellant layout for target golf. The greens were still in transistion though and were in terrible shape. It was not worth $180 to play.

Played Dragon Ridge in May. Very nice track and good greens. The only stupid hole is #10. Remember on the greens they say everything breaks toward Vegas.

AJC1, thanks for the reply. I just checked on-line and it appears Dragon Ridge is closed during my visit.

I played Stallion Mountain back in September and that was pretty nice. We payed $99 each. The greens were not great compared to what I am used to here in NY. I have never played another course out there so I have nothing to compare it to. My friends played Siena the day before and they said Stallion Mountain was better. I am sure you will have a great time wherever you play. Good luck!

We were there four weeks ago. Stayed at the Wynn but didn't get to play because they were closed for drill and fill and overseeding. Most everyone was closed then. I think many courses that were doing maintenance were scheduled to reopen on October 2nd.

 

It was going to be $500 to play the Wynn. I would have had a hard time paying that but probably would have anyway. It looked nice from what I was able to see of it. I was going to pick up a golf shirt in their pro shop, but didn't find any shirts for less than $150.

Anyone play the Legacy Course, is it an ok track?

I'll be there the same week (Oct 29-Nov 4). I have heard that the Revere Lexington is a very good track, I am hoping to hook up with some other golfers to play Revere Lexington ($80 on golfnow.com), but also some courses that I haven't played out there like Siena or Tuscany. Are you going to play on that Thursday the 2nd?

 

Anyone else in town that week looking to play?

I arrive Thursday morning and I am hoping to get out. The rest of my foursome won't arrive until Friday. I have to play late around 12:30- 1pm as my flight isn't scheduled to arrive until 10:07 am (hopefully no delays and I hope enough time to get to a course). I'm still checking out courses, was hoping to play Shadow Creek but appears it's already booked... :drinks:

The Revere Lexington is a course I was considering for Saturday.

That's not too bad, I usually play in the late morning/early afternoon. We can try to shoot for Revere or any other course if that's ok with you. I can PM you my cell number, I'll have my laptop out there to check messages as well.

one of my most enjoyable rounds has been at Reflection Bay at Lake Las Vegas. My last round there, I was watching Charles Howell the 3rd hit his shots, as he was playing behind our group. I just love the course and the layout. They sometimes have mid-day and twilight discounts.

Dragon Ridge is actually going private on nov. 1. If want to have a goof golf experience i would suggest getting a rental car. There are only two courses close to the strip (Bali Hai & LV National) so if you want to go off the strip it will cost you alot in cab fairs. If you haven any questions send me a pm i live here and am in the golf industry.

I live in Vegas, played the Lexington 2 days ago. Good shape. Sienna is in good shape but are doing some minor work of the perimeter of the rough to make it more desert friendly (less water). Tuscany struggled with overseeding in late sept so the greens were incredibly slow a week ago. Same with Red Rock.

 

If your looking for something different try Wolf Creek in Mesquite nevada (1 hour north). Closest thing to real life golden tee that you'll ever see/play. Hardest course ever to descibe. A must play, but only a few times.

 

Courses conditions I have played in the last month. Reflection Bay +, Rio Secco +, Bear's Best +, Paiute all 3 tracks +, Siena +, Red Rock -, Angel Park +/-, Revere Lexington +, Tuscany - (slow, slow greens), Rhodes Ranch -.

Don't play the badlands. Goofy target golf. I wouldn't play if it were free and in perfect shape.

I 2nd that! We found it cheaper and much more convenient to rent a car instead of taking a cab. It came to $80 which we split 4 ways for a small van and that was well worth it.

That's another good suggestion, I'll look at Wolf Creek as well.

 

Would like to try Revere Lexington on this trip, of course I could book through the Troon desk at Aladdin where we'll be staying; however, if I book through golfnow.com there is a somewhat discount, but I need at least 1 other player to book a round through them. I am a single.

 

I could book courses that I have already played as a single like Black Mountain, Silverstone, Palm Valley, Highland Falls, Aliante, and Stallion Mountain, but I wanted to try some new courses this trip. I don't mind ponying up more this trip, so that may be the way I have to go.

I would highly recommend Wolf Creek....quite different than almost every other course, very scenic and challenging. Wind is often an issue there as well as cold -- play a little later in the morning/day if you can.

If I don't set up a game at Lexington on Saturday with my foursome i'd be interested to play on Thursday..I'll keep you informed if your still available as I try to finalize my weekend plans.
