Wilson Staffs Win Order of Merit

Hopefully the rebirth will continue!

With Harrington's win on the European Order of Merit, the Wilson Staff brand has it first real success I can remember since Vijay was on their tour stafff. I think their last major might have been Daly's Open Championship.

When I was a kid, Staff irons were everything X-Tours, TP's or Mizzy's are today. I would love to seem them back in the game with the big boys.

For those of you who haven't tried them, the P-series Padraig has been using are fantastic. The F-series are gorgeous but a bear to hit.

That's good to hear. The Pi5's are great irons (I have a set), but I think Paddy's are forged. There has been bag chatter seen in some closeup pictures.

Wilson really needs to work on the woods next. Both Paddy and Jesper are playing other drivers/woods than Wilson. Not having a really good driver right now has hurt their comeback.

i too remmber wilson staff as the brand when i started playing in the 80's. right up to the ultra tour woods with the firestick shaft they produced some top stuff but they went after the bottom end. The current forged iron compares very well to the old staff progressive but in the uk pro's wont touch them even though Paddy plays well with them year after year because they are poor at marketing and just go for the big mass market that has demeaned the brand. Macgregor has the same problem and its obvious why Mizuno pulled the Widec and sterling lines so they didnt go the same way.

Paul Lawrie was a Wilson staffer when he won the Open in 1999 at Carnoustie.

My problem with Wilson is why no US players or presence? Their main guys are European and are not seen here on a weekly basis. I know that their parent company is European, but they have no tour presence and a definite cheap retail image. They did make great irons, wedges and putters, but you cannot even relate to the new stuff. Anyway-my $.02.
