Custom Fitting

Recommended Posts

How do you get it done?
I am in the midst of rebuilding my bag... and want to get custom fitted for everything from putter to driver... I have found a custom club fitter 100 miles away from me who is going to do my irons... and I'm still trying to figure out how I want to get everything else done.

The advantages I see for getting custom fitted are two fold: 1. You have an objective observer who can help you pick the best equipment 2. That person can verify that the equipment is correctly specced, and build exactly the way you need it.

The problem with this is finding the right person to do it... as far as I can tell, I have 3 basic choices and I was hoping someone would have a silver bullet solution that would address my concerns.

1. Find a good custom fitter. This is what I've done thus far... but I haven't found anyone I'm confident with within 100 miles. I'm happy with the fitter I've found, but he doesn't carry OEMs. I'm confident in both his ability to fit me and build the clubs, but I'm worried about the selection.

2. Tour Van: Well, finding one in Louisville is a challenge in it's own right... but I also worry that it will tie me to one manufacturer... and the only van I've heard good things about is Titliest. I know Taylor Made is building fitting facilities, but I'm not sure how far I'm willing to travel for it. I'm not sure who else does quality custom fitting... if I knew where to get fitted for Adams, I think I'd have an all Adams bag (or possibly Bridgestone)

3. Box store fitting... nice selection, but I don't trust them to build the clubs correctly... and I'm not sure I trust their fitting processes. I also worry about the custom selection of shafts they have in the store... they rarely have S+ or X, which is what I prefer.

Any thoughts?

amazing what you can find out when you can be bothered.

I've been to Golf Headquarters. They don't have a decent launch monitor... and as I stated, I worry about golf stores actually building the clubs I want to spec.

What makes you think the stores build the clubs?
Nothing... but since they aren't being built in store any issues can't be quickly and easily resolved... a custom club fitter (or tour van) have the equipment on hand to build clubs to spec and don't depend on the manufacturing tolerances of the factories.

I stated that I don't trust the stores to provide me with clubs built to my specs... I have been in Golf Headquarters. They are nice, friendly people. I am happy to give them my money for things like golf balls... but I don't trust them to fit me for a set of clubs and then build (or make sure that my clubs are built) to spec.

This applies to basically all the ranges and golf courses in my area. The options you mention don't have the selection or the ability to custom fit clubs to my specs.

I'm very aware of my surroundings. Hence my problems with custom fitting... if there was a club builder I trusted in the city/area I would go to them.

Google isn't going to solve my problem... but thanks for the help.

Whining about it isn't going to solve your problem either. Short of being picked up by helicopter and flown the the world's best fitting centre, or having Joe Kwok airlifted to your house, what is the best you are hoping for?

What exactly do you want from a fitting. It seems like you ate not going to settle for anything but the best. If that is the case you may need to get on a plane.

Yeah, I will probably end up with an all Wishon bag from the Cincy clubfitter... It'd be nice if I he had more OEM options.
