Nike Ignite

Recommended Posts

The new Ignite hybrid/iron set is packed with technology. The thin face, low profile and deep breadth of the #3H hybrid make it easier to hit higher and longer than a conventional #3 iron. The iron design incorporates a deep undercut cavity and wide sole to increase stability and help get the ball up in the air. The distance and forgiveness offered by this set are sure to heat up your game.

FEATURES:

* Enhanced perimeter weighting and naturally lower and deeper CG of the hybrid increases forgiveness.

* Deep undercut cavity moves the Center of Gravity (CG) back for greater stability in the irons.

* Wide sole facilitates getting the ball air bourne and helps prevent fat shots.

* Thin face improves distance and accuracy.

* Longer iron profiles increase the hitting surface.

* Generous offset allows additional time to square the club face.

* Nike Crossline grips by Lamkin.

Coming from a 'Super' Game Improvement iron, I wanted the next step. I wanted something I could grow with, but I still recognize I am not a low handicapper.

After reading the so called Hotlists, I tried a few clubs in this category, and some outside this category: Callaway X-20, Cobra S9, Cleveland Gold, Nike CCI Cast, and a few others. I did my testing indoors with a launch monitor and I retested certain clubs to be certain of consistent results. I ended up walking away with a new set of Nike Ignite irons, graphite/ regular flex.

The most comperable set in my personal opinion were X-20's, but I truly didn't find them more forgiving. The price difference is certainly misleading in my opinion, and I hate to say it, but I believe the low, low price of the Ignite irons is scaring some people off. Honestly, I didn't even consider them (because of pricing) until I saw some really good golfers using them, including Rory Sabattini.

As a set the lack of a standard Gap wedge is just fine for me, as I prefer getting the Hybrid. It has a shallow face so a steep swing will be penalized, but I liked that it was much easier to keep straight compared to my old hybrid.

Performance wise, the irons have the perfect blend of forgiveness AND feedback. My last set of clubs were super forgiving, but so muted, that off center hits felt dead and very difficult to judge without impact tape. The Ignites give you a nice buttery 'click' with excellent distance off the sweet spot. A toe hit is quite obvious and your hands definitely register a heel hit as well. On the other hand, I found most of the Super Game Improvement clubs gear a lot of the technology towards absorbing impact.

The sole is a medium width. Actually it's really not that much different from the CCI Cast, but thankfully it isn't a 'shovel' like some of the SGI clubs. Coming steep into the ball still allows a decent result, but the club doesn't have that massive sole you see so often on the SGI sets.

Shaping the ball is not that hard at all with these. I don't regularly try to shape the ball so I can't say they are 'great' or 'mediocre' at ball shaping, however, during range sessions I could regularly produce a draw/fade, and had decent trajectory control. My last set would not allow me to produce a low punch no matter what I did.

I've had the clubs for a week now and most of my hitting as been range based. I've been measuring shots, and looking for consistency. These are more punishing for errant swings, but just as far as anything I tried in this category. I prefer the added feedback from the club, and I really look forward to growing with this club for the next while. I think this could be the most underrated club I tried.

These really are some great clubs. They were my first set of real, high-quality clubs and they were just that. For game-improvement irons, you have a great deal of control over the trajectory and shape of your shots, and the feedback is also quite nice. The hybrid is incredibly easy to hit, and can be worked for either fade/draw shape shot. Overall just a really nice set of clubs, and I agree that the they are underpriced, considering the quality and brand of the clubs.

rory sabatini uses these irons and hes a pro so i guess thats either a testement to this clubs forgiveness and workability or a testement to rorys horrid ball striking. but he crushes it so i guess its the first one. i havent hit these and i never would but if rory uses them they are abviously an underrated set of irons.

Pretty solid irons! A friend of mine been playin with em for a few months now, and i hit them just to play around on the range. A very forgiving iron that, when shafted with that uniflex crap, gets the ball up in the air...i mean way up in the air. Ill have to say that the longer irons suited my taste more than anything else. I made an offer to trade him my 4 hybrid for his 4 iron because i could hit his so much easier that my pc 4 iron. Great set at a great price...o yeah, ditch the uniflex shaft for whatever fits you.

Hey there folks. I'm new to these parts and pretty new to the sport. I have a club question I'm hoping someone can give me a little insight on.

I went to my local sporting goods store today and hit a few clubs in the 300 dollar range: Adams, Taylormade, Callaway, and nike. I hit pretty good with the callaway and the nike. The golf pro there said that from what he saw he would recommend the NIKE IGINTE II. Does anyone have any thoughts about these clubs? Any help would be aprreciated.

Thanks,

DJ

http://www.golfwrx.c...ignite-2-irons/ try these links. I think they should be OK for $299, but if I was in your position starting out would look at Adams a7 for $399, including 3 and 4 hybrids they are a bit newer and are a mainstream production club not a one-off discount model for distribution thru big box stores
