Which would increase swing speed the most if working out?

stronger wrists/forearms or core strength?

I am planning on working my butt off this winter to really improve my driving distance. When i first started playing golf 4 years ago i also played baseball and worked my forearms and wrists heavily in the off season, and when i first started driving the ball, i could easily hit it 310 with a pos knight driver, but i couldn't hit the fairway and had no accuracy. Since, i have improved greatly and gotten down to a 4 hcap, and hit the fairways more consistantly but my distance has gone down greatly to around 280-285 or so. Now last winter i worked out fairly regularly working mainly on biceps, triceps, pecs, shoulders and abs, and have not really noticed an increase in distance at all. The other day i noticed how on many of the long ball hitters on tour, namely Tiger, they have ripped forearms. That got me thinking that maybe the reason for my loss in distance is due to the fact that i haven't worked on this area in literally 4 years.

So i guess my question is, would forearm strength be more apt to create clubhead speed than core strength?

Tiger is quite a strong guy,but as you stated his forearms are alot bigger than most guys.

 

 

Iam not a burly guy

I am 13 6'1" and 115 lb.

I have slightly puny biceps but I have monster forearms.

But I mainly draw my power from my hips though.

Recenty my high school golf team had a driving contest that I won over large 6'3" and 6'4" guys weiging around 180-200 pounds with ripped arms.

You really dont need to be Mr Muscle to crush the ball,(unless you want to compete seriously in Long Driving Contests). You need to work on muscles speciffically tuned to the swing and also limbering up to become more flexible and gain more momentum for an overall faster clubhead speed).

In terms of what needs to be strengthened, I've been doing the whole body because you need upper body for speed, core for twisting power, and legs for stabilization and driving thru the ball power. I also do alot of stretching inbetween sets to stay limber, and after each workout, use my troybar to compliment it all, for more info on the troybar and what it does, see my post on "gaining swingspeed" stumbled across new weight trainer.
