Wie plays SUMO at Casio Open

I've hit both drivers and I prefer the looks & shaping of the Sumo over the original SQ and the Sumo 2. It will be interesting to see how many staffers choose this model over the square head.

i'm not sure i completely agree with that. she can't be on tour full time until she turns 18 in October. so, she's still not going to be competing as much as the other players, not to mention it will be her rookie season.

 

she still needs about 2-3 years to get used to being on tour.

Career-best LPGA finish: 2

Career-low LPGA round: 65

Earnings (in LPGA events): $730,921

 

Not to mention 6 Top 5's. For someone who doenst have full status, has the added pressures of greatness and by the way is still in High School... pretty good year if you ask me. She doesn't have much to prove. She cant hack it with the guys. Unfortunatley this has clouded her year. But I do think we need to give credit where credit is do.

I am with you guys on Michelle needs to get her game back on track... especially her putting. ;)

 

I had the chance to demo the new "unitized" putters versus the old Nike putter that Michelle has been using.

If she is upgrading her equipment she should change putters immediately. Her old putter just plain out right sucks. I couldn't get the speed down consistently with the thing to shoot a good round.

 

The unitized putters are really good. I mean really good. Nike has finally got into the putter business. My thoughts though are that a lot of people will not pick up on them and they will be a steal come mid season next year.

 

Anyways Wiezy needs to win a couple of tournaments next year and let the trying to make it with the guys thing rest a for a while.. (get your confidence and momentum going)

So she can't either??? Her putting speed is just fine. Putting on path under pressure and green reading however is another story...

If my memory served, Wie is not suggested to play (including sponsors exception) European PGA in 2007 by some big wigs there. Honestly such a decision benefits her LOTS. We will see.

I really wasn't impressed by the new Nike Unitized putters. They felt "funny" to me balance wise and the feel just wasn't there. I didn't spend a lot of time with them, but really, if they had felt better I would have. Interesting idea, but I think when the novelty wears off you'll just be left with another middle of the road putter.

 

For 250 bones, there are better putters out there for most people. Not sure a Unitized would cure Wie's woes on the green... more practice and less pressure to make PGA cuts would be a start. IMHO.

You know, usually I would jump on the Wie bashing as I have in previous posts. But now that I really think about it, I really think we should sit back and enjoy how good she is. If she doesn't do well once she is full time on the LPGA, then I will go back to not feeling too good about her. But for now, I've come to the conclusion that we should just sit back and wait. Still, I hope she doesn't burn out and turn into something bad, but I don't see that now as I did earlier this year.

 

Although I think the sooner she gets out from her father, the sooner she will become better. He is a nut and should just back off... Uh oh, just opened a can of worms... Sorry guys, been drinking some tonight... ;)

i absolutely agree on previous post about dropping leadbetter as her coach.

leadbetter's teaching is not really taking full advantage of a young player like wie with tremendous flexibility. too much emphasis on cocking with restricted movement, i think.

I wasn't suggesting that the Nike clubs were holding her back, but that she didn't have the freedom to change if she wanted to. Sorry if it wasn't clear.

 

Agreed on Leadbetter. He doesn't seem to do well with most of his young prodigees. Ty Tryon and the Song sisters spring to mind. Who did she see before, Gilcrist?

17 years old and already has a 2nd place finish and 6 top 5's (thanks codylowrygolf for the facts) on a professional tour. How many players in the history of golf can make that claim? If you paired Tiger at 13,14,15, 16, or 17 against Wie at the same age, I would take Wie all day long. The only way she does not continue to make history is if she quits working at her game and just lets herself go physically and mentally.
