golfing in scotland...

I am going to Scotland in a month and half to play Prestwick, the Eden course at St. Andrews, and Carnoustie. My dad and I are only going to send over one bag, since this is the second half our trip (Germany for the first week). We were planning on buying a cheap bag while in Scotland, and just leaving it there. Anyone have any idea of how much a bag in Scotland would cost?

Having spent two weeks in Scotland playing golf over the past two years I've found that they basically chage the same in pounds as the US does in dollars for golf gear. If a bag was $45 US it will be 45 pounds sterling or roughly $70.

I second this. Everything over there (not just golf gear) costs about the same as it does here, except it is their currency. If you spend $3 at Starbucks, expect to spend 3 pounds for the same drink over there.

As multiple people have said, it will cost you a lot more to buy a bag over there because of the exchange rate. That is probably not the best way to go; rental is probably better.

You can definitely rent clubs at Carnoustie and St. Andrews, not sure on Prestwick.

Also, I am guessing that you are playing Eden because you can't get on the Old Course with a guaranteed time. You should scrap that and go for Kingsbarns or the Castle course. While you are at Prestwick, you should see if you can squeeze another 18 in at either Royal Troon or Western Gailes- both are very close. I would do the same in St. Andrews- make an afternoon tee time at Kingsbarns and then go to the first tee when the starter opens at the Old Course to see if you can get on in the morning.
