Two things:

1. His contract with Titleist runs still for '07.

2. His SAP headgear sponsor is too big. Nike only allow one sponsor on their headgear and we all know what that is...

Yep! The check mark, or the TW logo!!! That is IT!

True statement!!

Ernie is not going anywhere for 2007..... :crazy2: (at least not until 2008!)

I also don't understand the Nike bashing. While I don't play any of their clubs currently, they do make some excellent stuff. And their staff players all seem to be good guys who have an insane amount of talent. While I agree that some of their drivers may look weird, the days of the classy old school shape are about done. And even some of the drivers that look normal on top are hideous on the underside (ever just looked at an R7?). Bottom line is, they make really high quality equipment (as do a massive number of other companies). This whole brand versus brand thinking is getting a bit like NASCAR, and if you're okay with that, then so be it. I prefer to respect each major OEM (and several component companies) for their excellent product line. If I don't like something, I won't bash it, I just won't buy it.

Brands Currently in play:

:) :crazy2: :)

Ping Rapture 14 Stiff Saishin (sp)
Ping Rapture 21 vs Proto Stiff
Ping Zing 4-SW Stiff
Ping Eye 2 Plus LW
Ping Cadence B65

Ernie needs to stay with Titleist and forget about equipment. He needs to change swing coaches. David Leadbetter is leading Ernie in a direction which he needs not to go. Stick Ernie with Rob Akins (my coach) Butch Harmon, or anyone else for that matter except Leadbetter.

Ding, Ding, Ding...now we are talking...

Nothing personal against leadbetter...but I look at his core group of big-name students and I see nothing good...

M. Wie...going backwards fast.

CH 3...left awhile ago...afraid the damage is done.

EE...game is going sideways partly due to injuries and partly due to pressure on self to meet your stated goals.

NP...retiring so might not matter, still one of the all time greats.

Ernie Els swing

http://golfdigest.com/instruction/index.ss...01ernieels.html

Yes I agree- except Nick Price. Nick Price's swing, at least the on Golfdigest's swing sequences, is much different from Ernie Els or Michelle Wie. Nick retains his angle much better than any other Leadbetter Student. If any of you have tried the Swing Setter, to make the ball click on the downswing, you basically have to flip, or "release" the club as Leadbetter might say. There is no need to release the club, it aint in prison.

Ernie Els is I believe 6-3 210 lbs or so. He doesn't need to flip at the ball, like he does. Ernie, in my opinion is not allowing himself to play to his full potential because he doesn't use his huge frame that he was blessed with. I'm 6-2, 225, and I have, and am working hard to use that frame to hit the ball. If Ernie were to use his body, man he'd be back to where he was in 2002,2003, and 2004, for sure because His swing would hold up better under pressure. Why? because he would not have to time his flip, but just swing his body. I have heard people tell me that Ernie may be one of, if not the most athletic player on tour.

I think that what Mr. Sigmamason and myself are both getting at is that Ernie needs to quit toying with his clubs, and work on his swing. Personally, If he were to work for 3 months with another instructor who would teach Ernie a swing that would exploit all of his physical prowess.

And poor Ty Tryon who also died from Lead poisoning......

How can a guy who, by his own admission, can't break 80 from tournament tees turn top player's games around, especially as he thinks they should all swing the same?

These poor lambs have all lost their self confidence as well as 20 yards off the tee. How does he continue to get away with it?

yeah Leadbetter quite simply has lost his touch. At one time, he was great, like the work with Faldo, Nick Price and Ernie Els early on. Seems like all of Leadbetter's students aren't doing as well as they could. Did any of Leadbetter's top/ tour students win in 2005?

I agree, EE's been off his game since big lefty took the masters off him in 04. He even lost a play off in the open to TH, who has not been seen since. Don't blame the tool EE, get rid of the "mentor"

Yeah Justin Rose is with some fella with a thick british accent; can't remember his name, but he seems to have Justin on the right track, his swing much better now, I think they are trying to eliminate the leadbetter flip, and he is hitting it much more solidly.

Forgot about Ty Tryon. Dude has a ton of talent, just never seemed to pull it together long enough. Still young enough to to make a run at a card, wonder if he doesn't end up as a Resort teaching pro...

Guys, now you are talking. Knowing EE from schooldays it is sad to see how bad his swing is at the moment.

He lost his natural swing by preventing his bad swing which is a pull hook. Whoopie he lost the pull hook but now can't find the golfcourse with a 9 iron.

Ernie is good enough to play with any iron but he can't carry on with Lead.

It might not be bad move to move away from Scotty too.

Also I believe he is not practising alot these days, so maybe it is time to put the head down and go Tiger Hunting.

Can you imagine Ernie working with somebody like Jim Hardy and using one plane swing fundamentals? (cool) :idhitit:
