Big guy needing some driver help (1st time poster)

First post although i've been a long time lurker.  I'm a 12 hdcp but cannot keep my driver straight. I am either pushing everything really far right or hitting a snap hook, and have even started topping the ball occasionally. SS is about 108-112 last time measured.  My irons i hit with a nice, slight draw and am very consistent with those.  Avg distance for a 9 iron is 150.  My driver when hit straight is about 260-280.  Have a lesson next week but hoping to get some insight.

None taken. i know my swing is ugly, especially on the driver but it is rock solid and consistent on my irons. Here's a bad video of me with a 4 iron. Most of the time I abandon the driver after a couple of holes and go 3 wood off the tee with a cut shot.

Joey, it is his first post. C'mon...

Clay, there are a bunch of great guys here who know the golf swing in and out - russc, cBrian, Monte, etc. They will be along shortly and get you straightened out.

Believe it or not there is great potential in that swing.

I would say, your shoulder turn is virtually non existent, you need to work on feeling your left shoulder get behind the ball. Flexibility training will help this a lot.

Like wise with that flying foot after impact. You have low flexibility so you are doing the best you can with your current status.

I know you are a big dude, but being flexible does not require being thin. That is my advice.

What's your bad shot matey?

Have you tried turning your left foot out to about 10 o'clock position instead of 12? Just with you being a big guy might just help you through the ball. Its helped me alot and eased pressure off my knee.

thanks for the advice. never really realized how non-existent my shoulder turn was until i made these videos. definitely going to start doing flexibility excercises to help with this. i will also try turning my foot out to help me get through the ball.

Had a lesson yesterday. pro said biggest issue was i wasn't making a full shoulder turn which was causing me to lift up in my backswing to get the club back further thus pushing it right. gotta start stretching out to get the club back there.

I am a big dude too - 6'1 @ 280 / 105 SS, with no flexibility - never had any, even while playing football, baseball and basketball in highschool - Was never able to touch my toes!

I take indoor lessons every 2 weeks hooked up to a computer - All of my "red numbers" have been consistant in shoulder bend at top of swing / shoulder tilt at top of swing / shoulder turn & tilt at impact ... You seem to be in the same boat as I am.

We have a similar swing except my back swing is a hell of alot longer (too long but it works) and looks alot prettier
