epon vs yururi vs miura vs cobra...yep, cobra!

took a few sets out to the range this weekend and thought i'd post up my brief thoughts...

the epon af-tours were the purest of the bunch. completely solid and rewarding, a feeling that is definitely set apart from the rest.

the cobra s3 pros were the softest of the lot. easily a close second in pure feel to the epons. the ball feels like it stays on the cobras face longer than any other.

the yururi flatbacks are very soft but the most harsh on mis-hits. however, on center strikes, nothing punished the ball better than these. they were the most powerful feeling head going through impact, no question!

the miura tourney blades were a bit disappointing. i was expecting to be wowed but they simply felt as if there was some meat missing from the muscle. they just seemed to lack the same punch through impact that the others had. don't get me wrong, they felt good...but no where near as good as anything else i hit this session.

these are just my personal observations and opinions and it's probably not a fair comparison with each set on different shafts/grips but i was surprised at some of my impressions. obviously, i expected more from the miuras considering the praise they get and the other surprise is how well the cobras stand up to high end jdm's.

Have to agree with you on the miuras. Tried these head to head vs the epon af302. Not only was the 302 softer but also more forgiving and significantly better launch monitor numbers. I would recommend taking a look at the epon personals, the look takes some getting used to but it's starting to grow on me. I haven't hit these yet but may have to buy a set based on feedback I've received from other members. I will be moving some nice sets in order to acquire these soon I think. If anyone is interested in some mint forged cb's (NanoV tour forged cb and fourteen tc770 forged by endo) Lmk. Loving epon so much these days I may have to move my whole yonex bag...

freehb, i am looking at the personals. they're very much like hogan's blade on blade design and i expect them to work well. many, if not most, manufacturers have "borrowed" his innovations at one time or another because his clubs were so far ahead of their time. i don't think i would have any problems getting used to them...especially if they're an improvement over the af-tours (which is a feat in itself). like you, i may end up selling my af-tours if i get these!

mizzy, i agree, the tourneys were surprisingly unrewarding. i'm expecting to try the 57's very soon and i have my hopes up for those. no question though, the miuras are one of the prettiest to look at!

im surprised to hear the Cobras performed that well. i may have to try those out now. i havent hit Yururi irons, only their wedges. did the irons chew up the ball like their wedges though? and i cant compare them to the Epons because i havent hit them, but i hear nothing but great things about Romaro irons. those might be worth a look for you as well.

the cobras are exceptional, better than any other usdm i've tried. if i had to get rid of all my jdm's, i'd have no reservations gaming them...in fact i'd choose them over a few!

the 2010 yururi irons haven't chewed up balls any worse than any other modern iron i've played. these are my current gamers so i know them well. i should definitely retire balls sooner than i do but i get 2 rounds out of a tm penta (not the tp5), however to limit spin, i don't play full shots from under 120yds so i might be easier on balls than most.

i came close to picking up a set of romaros...but the rumors of the new epons led me astray. i have heard good things about the romaros but i don't know it can get better than epon if feel/feedback are your top priority.

i'll add that i also brought my old taylormade rac mb's to the range that day and if it wasn't for the smallest sweetspot of any club this side of the year 2000 they'd be fantastic! there have always been rumors that they were miura forged but i've never seen any supporting evidence.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
