Has anyone ever played this shaft?

My club fitter is recommending this shaft http://www.bestbuygolfsupply.com/alphagolfequipment/alphaplatinumldwoodshaft.htm. for my new driver in a 5x. Something about that seems really off to me, especially since we're doing a regular 45" driver not a longer LD setup. On the trackman my SS averaged 125-127 with my normal driver with a 65g shaft. I'm concerned that I wont be able to get any flex out of an LD shaft marked 5x. Any thoughts?

The link doesn't work. But if you are a very quick transition, then the 5 x makes sense. I did see the alpha ld series on sale for $58 in xxxxx flex. They also carry regular, stiff, extra stiff, extra extra stiff, extra extra extra stiff and extra extra extra extra stiff too.

Going to check them out as it seems they have some stuff most shops (inc. ld) don't normally carry.

Sorry for the link. The shaft I was looking at was the Alpha Platinum LD in a 5x

I dont even know of a company that makes a 5X any more. Accuflex use to when they were up and big, And I would check the CPM rating of the shaft shown in link. I have a couple guys on staff who use 3X tipped an inch and they have 150+ legit swing speeds on Trackman....But if your in the 125+ 45 inch swing speed range, no point to go that stiff. No ones hand speed through the ball is that fast to use a 5X at that swing speed.

Shaft flex is a non universal entity. What can be considered stiff flex by one company can be considered something completely different by another...
Remember measurements are taken ONLY at the butt end and you have NO IDEA how the shaft profiles... unless you measure each shaft at every 5" beam length...To assume you are limited to a specific flex or cpm (also taken at the butt flex) is stupid.

My three favorite driver shafts perform almost exactly the same....yet the CPM measurement of them (at Butt point) is 217, 235, 270.

All perform EXACTLY the same because the profile from grip down is relatively similar....but for many they would look at those CPM #s and say I was hitting a R flex, stiff flex and XX stiff flex.

I will not EVEN get into Torque at this point in time...lol

Too many golfers are uneducated on equipment and could save tons of money if they quit listening to OEM banter and just got fitted with an unbiased club fitter.

Question - if I were to go up to an LD setup and go to 48", how much swing speed should I pick up?

You do not increase speed really, you just generate more power. You are wanting to keep the swing speed there and allowing the longer shaft to have more force at impact.

way to stiff at 45"
5X rated cpm is 305 /actual 290 @ 50" LDA

I say xxx max even if you like something beefier and are really fast tempoed and aggressive. Something around 282 cpm at 45" would seem more like it

I agree. Something around 285 cpm would be good. buy a 2x shaft and tip a little.
