Blades back in the bag today...

... and what a lovely day it was. :)

 

Short backstory: last fall, I was largely playing Mizuno MS-11s. Saw a set of Eye2+ at the local 2nd Swing, hit them on the launch monitor, loved the lower spin, so I bought them. Since that time, I've used a set of blades only once, after having playing virtually nothing but blades since 2001.

 

So, it was to be the Ram TG-898s today, 3-PW. Not as sexy as Vibration Matched Golden Rams, or the TW-276s, but the former haven't had L&L checked since 2003 and the latter are still unbent to my lie specs. Stepped Precision 6.5 shafts installed. Carried a Frequency Matched Golden Ram 1 iron, bent to 18° to use as a quasi-2 iron.

 

For added fun, also threw the Golden Ram persimmon driver and 3 wood in the bag, stock Precision 6.5 in both.

 

In spite of bogeying each of the first three holes, shot 39/39, 7-over (FWIW, I'm at 6.2). Fought the driver the entire way, had a horrible case of the lefts with it. Apparently my swing is such that I'm overloading the 6.5 Precision shaft. :(

 

The best part... I was all over pins all day with the Rams. I putted terribly, lipped out a couple putts, left two short right in the heart, missed two relatively easy birdie chances roughly six feet each.

 

And, I hit a ball in the water long on a par 3. And still shot 78.

 

So yeah, I think the blades might stick around a while again. :D

(oh how I missed ye...)

 

Side note: not having reshafted a persimmon myself, I have an appointment next week for a clubmaker to fit me for a new steel shaft in a Smart Driver I've had lying around for years. It has a shaft far too soft for me, so it's just lying around. About time I get that thing into game shape.

Glad you had fun playing with your classics, that's what it's all about when you take out that kind of club. When you strike it well with them it kinda makes you think..........

For the heck of it, I looked on ebay to see what was out there, and saw a set at the local 2nd Swing store. 2-PW Frequency Matched Golden Rams, with stepped Precision shafts. They're in really good shape, but I think they want a bit much for them, they're asking $359.

The funny part is, the shafts: Precision stepped,[b] 7.5[/b]. LOL
