Paintfill question

Recommended Posts

Okay so im doing some paintfill on my Scotty Select NP2 that i purchased recently, i have all the lettering done("cameron" on the neck, "scotty cameron" on face, and the mini titleist logo on the bottom) and it looks really good, extremely pleased. But for one some reason I can't get the cherry bombs in the back to look right, it was easy on the former Camerons but on these, the circles are a lot deeper with also a ring around the perimeter so could you putter guys give me some help? Sorry if its a stupid question but this is a great place to learn so thanks in advance.

the cherry bombs are the toughest part to get just right. and be sure to get them exactly how you want them before you do the rest of the paint. its tough to make acetone only remove a small part without running into other painted areas. and work with one cherry bomb at a time.

what i did:
completely remove all paintfill
fill one circle with small amount of alcohol using a q-tip, it will evaportate quickly so work fast
with a toothpick, apply desired amount of paint and swirl around until its a consistent color with an even finish

i had to do my NP2 cherry bombs a few times before i got it just right, then finished the rest of the putter. i get a lot of compliments on it. i even had someone ask if it came from the SC Custom Shop.

Little tip, use a needle tipped bottle to put the paint in the bombs. Once you've got them covered with paint, drip a few drops of acetone into them and let it flash off. It'll mirror polish the paint.

i also did this, forgot about that one, sort of helps the paint flow a little more. this is how it came out using the steps above if you want some evidence as to how well this works:

What does "let it flash off" mean? I am having a hell of time with the new bomb weights. I'm using Testors paint and applying a small amount of rubbing alcohol prior to dropping paint. Is this wrong? Should I drop paint and then add the acetone or rubbing alcohol? Any help would be appreciated. Also, I can't find these needle tip bottle applicators. Where do you guys get these, other than eBay?

Flashing off of acetone means let it evaporate. It does this very quickly, and the paint tends to start to develop a tack near instantly, setting the paint quicker.

As for the needle tipped bottles, they're made by A-West and are sold by lots of online hobby shops. Flow 2 and Flow 3 bottles are the ones you're wanting. I'm fortunate enough that they're less than 30 minutes down the road, so I just stop in and pick them up as I need them/wear them out, forget to clean the needles, whatever.
