Video (I need to make some changes) tell me what you see...

Basically I'm a pretty good ball striker. My miss is either a block or a hook, usually the block. I think I need to work on my posture, getting my back flat because I think it'll keep me on plane more consistently. I feel like I'm to upright as well which causes me to get that swoopy miss hook. I don't know, can you guys help me out.

I just don't know. I shot 73, 74, 73, 77, and then blew it up with an 88 then came back with about an 81. Just trying to figure out how to get more consistent.

ball striking and scoring doesn't necessary go together. how's your short game? do you have a half swing? there's a lot of factors that make up the final score.
so true so true. You could make every green in reg and still shoot 90 if you 3 putted all day. Or miss a bunch of greens and be near scratch with great chipping, great bunker shots, and alot of 1 putts.

First quick look i noticed your hands move out, leading to a slight dissconection (arms & body) which in turn would account for your hooks and blocks, you have to re-route.

Keep/feel more conected will help reduce the re-route.

Hope this can help, Cheers Chris
I agree here. Every swing type has its misses. i was really impressed with this swing as i personlly fought an over the top move where this is clearly a inside out swing with alot of draw or push. on inspection we see your in a standard two plane position at the top. you bring it down onto plane under the shoulders which is good, but your finsh is very upright, and outside. We see the ball in the video starts out way right.
if you like playing the big draw, thats just what your misses are gonna be; the big push or the hook, depending if you leave it open or too shut. But no matter your swing path, the clubface has to cooperate for the desired shot. Whatever plane you swing on.
if you wanna minimize your draw and push, my suggestion would be to finish more on the same plane you come down on. your finish from a dtl view is up through the neck; and started below your shoulders. strive to finsh with shaft and right arm more across the body. Finish the clubhead more over to the left. look at manesseros shaft angle.starting and finishing. and then ball flight.

That's good stuff and well explained. Manassero has a great swing which is just getting better, big wins a just around the corner.

I will say that all players especially better players should pay attention to maintaining their grip and the plane lines on both sides of the ball. Focusing on these two fundamentals will help anyone produce a very simple low maintenance and more importantly repeatable golf swing, with no compensation.

To the OP, you have a golf swing, it just needs a tweak here and there. Then your be playing boring fairways and greens golf, not a bad thing.

This is what i see... Your Thrusting your pelvis out towards the ball during the downswing ever so slightly. Your hips are not clearing properly because of this. The main reason why i say this because your right foot is not in a good finish position. Also, your coming a bit much from the inside on the downswing.

This is the drill. Take a stance with your butt up against a wall. On the backswing your right butt cheek should brush against the wall. On the the downswing the left butt cheek should brush along the wall.

Thank you all for the replies!

@dnong - my short game is solid for someone who only gets out to play a few times a month, and hits the range & putting/chipping green less than that. I'm inconsistent in all those areas as well, especially putting which makes sense. Some days I'm money within ten feet, other days I'm not. I've really cut down on the three putts though. I will say the one thing I'm usually consistent with in my stroke is speed, I think I have pretty good feel around the greens.

My 120 yard and in game has always been a strength of mine. Full swing to 3/4 to 1/2 swing, knock downs and all in between. The problem, if some would call it a problem, is that I've mastered the play the push shot. I can aim, and do aim to this day slightly left of the target. For instance, on a 108 56 degree wedge shot, I'm aiming probably 10-15 feet left of the stick... and obviously I'll manipulate that as the day goes on and my swing changes but I've become really good at this.

I'm going to try drill prescribed by rick and work on getting my finish on the same plane. I'll post some videos later this week or next week. I'm trying to get into playing shape currently and get everything tuned in. So here is what I gathered from the replies and someone please correct me if I'm wrong. My plane is good coming down or at least descent enough correct? I need to keep my hands maybe closer in instead of thrusting towards the ball? Also work on my finish, keep both planes the same?

The main issue is your downswing coming from the inside of the swing plane a little much.
When you come from the inside of the swing plane on the downswing. I would say your ball starts off way right of target with a draw when you hit a good shot, however the ball will still be right of your intended target. When you try to hit the straight ball, I would say your tendency is to hit that big block shot or even worse the block with a fade.
Now if you fixed your swing plane from coming inside so much. the starting point of that draw your hitting could turn into a nice baby draw.. and the block your hitting would be more of a baby fade.
I think if you have the proper lower body action, the swing plane will more than likely fix itself.

Surprised nobody has mentioned his grip.

Fundamentals, work on that grip and posture before you start messing with your swing.
What's wrong with the grip? I understand my posture sucks but that's mainly due to me being out of shape. I'm an overlap grip. Seriously I'm interested and trying to get my swing fixed.

Your grip does look a little bit strong.

There is nothing wrong with a strong grip that the V's point to the right shoulder... A lot of the top pro's have this grip... However on the other hand you do have pro's that have more of a neutral or weak grip. Generally speaking.. the longer hitters have more of a strong grip.. to get more leverage with wrist movement. Basically to break it down... if you struggle with a open club face at impact.. i would say you want a stronger grip.. if you struggle with a closed club face at impact.. i would say you need to weaken the grip.. The point is.. you can have many types of grips... It's something the player needs to find out on his own.

These are the common type of grips.. what i believe anyway..
Weak Grip - The V's point from chin to the right ear..
Neutral Grip - The V's point to the right ear.
Strong Grip - The V's point from the right ear to the tip of the right shoulder.

Personally i prefer more of a Neutral to Strong Grip. Really, the player needs to find his own grip.

Nobody who shoots " I shot 73, 74, 73, 77" needs to be squandering their talent with random forum advice. Go get a pro to tell you what you are doing. For now use video to tell you. Download the free V1 Home 2.0 Basic to watch your swing frame by frame and see what you are doing in terms of variation.

I'm not ridiculing forum members but " I shot 73, 74, 73, 77" means you are near pro golfer level. By just making smarter decisions on the course you are then at pro golfer level.

I think you have a nice swing and you get into impact zones very well with nice lag. It looks like you make very solid contact with the ball. At quick glance, it appears to me you need a slight bend at the hips at address for better posture. You look pretty upright with bend in your back. A bend at the hips will give you better posture and a more athletic setup. The grip looks a little strong, but I play with a very strong grip as well. When my tempo is off, i fight the hook. As long as the fundamentals of the grip are correct, it's more about a grip that you are comfortable with and a grip for shot shaping. The big hook is probably caused in part by the strength of the grip and the push is probably caused by coming out of your posture and overcompensation for the strength of the grip so that you don't hit the hook. You might try playing around with a slightly more neutral grip (2 - 2 1/2 knuckles) and aim at or just slightly right of the flag. Consistency has to do with the fact you only play a few times a month. I have to play several times a week to develop any consistency in my scoring. Overall, I think you have a very nice swing and don't change much.
