Tulsa privates

Back to golf after not playing with any regularity. I played a lot in hs and early college. I am down now to high single digits hc. I have been playing semi privates and munis. I miss being able to get out and play and practice all I want. I live in south Tulsa/bixby area. Any ideas to where and how much I am going to have to spend to get on somewhere decent???

I would also love to know the "lay of land" from a dues and buy-in standpoint for GC of OK and Cedar Ridge. I think I know Cedar is out of my range, but I'd like to know. Also, had heard Golf Club of OK was over-crowded these days ... any truth to that?

Would love to hear how folks think Meadowbrook compares to the prior two (from a golf-only standpoint).

I actually was a member at Meadowbrook about 6 years ago but didnt use it enough that I let it go. Also my previous employer picked up the tab and I left that job. The golf course I believe is one of the best around as far as just golf goes. THe clubhouse and grounds leave a bit to be desired. The membership there reminds me a bit of Caddyshack and seems that if you havent been a member there for 15 or more years or you arent a legacy member, you arent squat. Anyway, I think they are working on that imagesome with local advertising and weeknight family functions...

I am seriously considering GCO and I've not heard that its overcrowded. As far as facilities goes, I think golf club is probably the best all around. Club house is fantastic. I have heard the course is not what it was 10 years ago.

Cedar Ridge is going to be more money and a referral to get in I believe but is nice... I think Cedar Ridge is also home to Bo Van Pelt and a couple other pros so they may be a bit proud for those reasons.

ummm golf club is much more exclusive and difficult to get into than cedar ridge..

Try Forest Ridge or Emerald.

I realize i was the one that asked the question as the OP, but I do know your statement is NOT true. Check your facts, a simple phone call to both membership departments will confirm this.
Neither Forest Ridge or Emerald Falls are private.

I said golf club is exclusive. I never said forest or emerald were private,

I have to agree with ksuchris2000 on this one. About 15 years ago GC of OK was definitely in the conversation of 2nd best club in the city and many would have said when purely comparing the golf courses it held its own against So Hills (obviously without the history), but more recently I hear GC of OK was looking hard for members. Definitly does NOT have the exclusivity it used to have.

Thanks to all for the information. I keep hearing, that when just comparing golf courses, that Meadowbrook is a pretty decent track.

GC of OK definitely having membership drives on a regular basis nowadays....three years ago when I was looking I could have gotten in for $5k upfront and dues of $400-500 if I remember correctly... I was living at Forest Ridge at the time and their semi annual rates were great and it was hard to argue against just walking out of the back gate to play.

Since then I have moved but have heard that they are still running specials from time to time that are even cheaper than what was offered to me back then. I have played there quiet a it through friends and never had issues getting on or being backed up on the course but again they were driving for new members hard and may have filled the membership back up. Meadowbrook was a cheap private option with specials run as well at the time but the course could nowhere sniff GC of OK...too short a track for me as well. Cedar ridge is definitely more accessible than Southern Hills but I could not help with dues or initiations there....how about Indian Springs didn't that used to be private as well? That should be in your neck of the woods and more affordable than the others....
