I doubt anyone on the PGA TOUR uses regular flex shafts.

I remember reading in one of the golf mag's back in the day, late 80's early 90's. Fred Couples went and visited Tom Watson's house and while he was there he picked up a 3 wood out of the many that Watson had. Used it with success until he found out it was Mrs. Watson's club and then had to have it reshafted and continued to use it. I'd bet that was a regular flex.

I heard a rumour that Daly (of all people!) supposedly used an R-flex shaft in his driver in the '91 PGA Championship.

 

I don't know the source, but it was reported thus in a British golf magazine...

It was a 13-degree ladies' driver. I don't know if he ever hit it with the original shaft though...

oh no your not i do in everything but driver, im gonna test out a few new shafts for that this winter.

im sure there are some guys on the pga that use reg. shafts, there are some guys that have such nice fluid swings that they couldnt load a stiff shaft.

Daly uses a real soft shaft in his wedges. I doubt tiger used a regular flex, maby when he was 7 years old.

Pavin plays S-300's in his irons and stiff in his woods. Although extremely short by PGA tour standards, he is still considerably longer than the average guy who should be playing R's.

No he didn't.....never on tour or Am events.....he been using X100's forever even in the Driver for a long time

And the "Real Soft shafts" are still at least X flex graphite instead of XX....he just prefers the "softer" feel in the X flex

I am sure that there are players on the LPGA and Champions Tour who use them but I would be surprised if there were any on the mens tour. Although I was a hockey player and their are many great shooters who use very light flexed shafts in their sticks... Brett Hull one of the best scorers in NHL history uses a flex shaft designed for a 12-14 yr old boy (70-75 flex) and would almost bend it in half on a shot...lol..at least it flexes much more than a golf shaft and he played shafts that were as whippy as he could find.

When Daly won the PGA Championship at Crooked Stick he was playing Sandvik Titanium shafts in stiff flex in both his Ping Eye 2 irons and Cobra Ultramid woods.

Larry Mize (fabulous player from the 1980's) had a slower tempo and played R400's in his irons (not sure about the woods). Also, there are a number of reasonably long LPGA players who play R300 or R400 shafts (Grace Park used to play R400's in her irons and stiff shafts in her woods).

 

I've only had one stiff shaft in a driver, and while I can load it and hit it okay, my next driver will be an SR or R flex of some sort. I'd rather swing a little more smoothly and more consistantly to keep the left hand side of the fairway (snap hook) out of play than have to load a shaft that feels like a telephone pole every time I hit my driver.

I play regular flex in all my clubs except the used hybrid I bought (see sig)...and it may be getting re-shafted or sold if I don't start getting it up off the deck.

You're not the only one, 5.2 rifles in the irons, but that's what fits me best.

Where did you get that from? KJ is a former weight lifter. It's hard to believe he used regular flex shafts.

I don't have it with me, but in a Japanese magazine that does an equipment roundup after the Masters, I was sure that KJ was using a stiff version of the MFS shafts back when he was playing those (I don't know what he played this past year though as I heard he was no longer with Matrix/MCC).

No way....i asked him in a Pro Am in Montreal this year.....they are X flex graphite.....just softer then his normal shafts.....

Jerry Kelly had a regular flex shaft in his 3 wood a couple years ago. I saw were he said he hit it good so he didn't change it.

Daly....um...no. There may be some, but they are few and far between. I have seen guys experiment with some pretty interesting stuff on the range. If they think it will help or give them an edge or make them more $$, they could care less what flex it is.
