Review: Mizuno JPX-825 Pro Irons

he tried their demo 6 iron of the 825 pro, his yardages went crazy long for a 6 iron, which scared him away from this iron, he continued demo'ing forged cb's of all makes which gave him yardages he recognized.

Interesting to hear. The lofts keep getting stronger in the long irons... JPX-825 6 iron is 28* and the 825 pro is 29*. I play X-22s 1/2" long and my 6 iron stock is 30*, so their 825 is almost a full club stronger; funny, because the PW in all three sets is the same at 45*. I suspect this is how they got rid of the 3 iron... their 4 iron is only 1* weaker than my 3 iron but it probably hits a lot longer.

I normally pull my 6 iron out of the bag for ~170yd shots, although on the range when I'm swinging well 190 is in play. So I go into Golf Galaxy and hit the 825 and 825 Pro 6 iron over 200 consistently, including 208, 218 and 232yd shots with the 825 (plus a good number of 200yd+ blocks/pushes). I don't know if their Launch Monitor is juiced, but that's hot.

Changing gears, I've never really liked the way my X-22s swing (they're 1/2" long). I'm a big, 6'4" guy, and I have to bend over rather far at address. For fun, I had them put a 1" long shaft in the 825 Pro; the swing weight felt terrible and I couldn't hit it. Thinking about experimenting with lead tape at the butt to see if that helps.

This review was persuasive enough for me to buy a set of the 825 Pros (4-GW) with regular steel shafts. I switched from MacGregor V-Foil M565 with rifle 5.0 shafts. The MacGregors have served me well for quite a few years and I like forged irons. I also tried the Ping i20s before settling on Mizunos due to the forged factor.

There is marginal improvement in distance. Overall the clubs have a better feel than the MacGregors and the Pings. I also feel that these are more forgiving than the Macs. They have a smaller head but a better shape and top line for alignment.

Bought them on-line from the US when the AUD was 1.06 to the 'green back' so I saved about 50% of the current retail price in Australia.

So far I am very happy with these clubs and would recommend that you take a look if you are seeking a forged game improvement iron.
