Tot Hill Farm is another Mike Strantz creation. Given that it is part of a housing development, it would seem as though this course was intended to be more of a member's course opposed to Tobacco Road being a resort course. As such, the course lacks some of the extreme features seen at Tobacco Road. It also lacks some of the quality architecture that Tobacco Road has. But this course is certainly above average and has enough design quality to keep even the snobbiest of golfers entertained.

I've only played THF one time. I enjoyed it, but didn't think it was anything to the standard of Tobacco Road. Holes 17 and 18 seemed oddly out of place to me given the prior 16 holes which has Mike Strantz written all over them.

Have you played other Strantz courses? It seems to me that among his courses they were built in pairs. Tot Hill Farm & Tobacco Road. True Blue & Caledonia. Royal New Kent & Stonehouse. Of those, I have played 4 and know a bunch of guys who have played Caledonia & True Blue. It seems that Strantz does one of the pair as visually extreme and over the top a bit and the other is still rather extreme, but more laid back on the visual stimulation. Tobacco Road, Royal New Kent and True Blue are extreme. Tot Hill Farm, Stonehouse and Caledonia are the modest ones. 18 was certainly Strantz, crazy angles and so forth.

17 is somewhat mundane, but I still thought is was a solid hole. It's got as many Strantz features as the 4th hole here or a few of the holes at Stonehouse. It still has the extreme green.

But you are correct, it's not to the standard of Tobacco Road and certainly not to the standard of Royal New Kent, which is the best Strantz course I have played.

Just the two; Tobacco Road and Tot Hill Farm. I've heard and read a lot of praise for Royal New Kent. Caledonia and True Blue will be on my list if and when I get to the Myrtle Beach area.

Did you play there or is this cut and paste off Wikipedia?

Is it me or is this whole post based on a supposition?

If you are Johnny Biarritz, can you identify the punchbowl or the cape?
