can't decide?

Well, I decided that this year I am not going to go through four or five drivers and multiple sets of wedges like I have done the last couple of years. I made up my mind to buy one or two nice customized putters. First, I almost ordered a slighter, but couldn't make up my mind on which model, then that fell through, I started talking to tom again and we decided that the kirkland or a long neck tacoma would be my best bet. I have been putting recently with face balanced yes emma and it is the best I have putted with for a while. My last two camerons both had around a 5:00 to 5:30 toe hang, which is way toooo much for me. I statred putting pretty good with the yes, but I know I don't have a perfect straight back, straight through stroke, just a ever so slight gaited stroke. I then started looking at the mills again. I saw on the site a tradition with a goose neck that david did with around a 3:30 toe hang, which might be exactly what i'm looking for. I am waiting to hear back from him on some design questions and pricing on a softail with a goose neck. I am ready to get started on one now and can't make my mind up. I'm weary that if I get a mills I am going to like it so much and decide to get another and forget about the slighter or vice versa. Damn this putter forum :fool: , I have a bad feeling that my driver and wedge hoe'ing i've done the last few seasons and have tried hard lately to control might have found a new place in the putter category. At least all of these great custom made puters look so good that I wouldn't hesitate buying a display rack for my wall (haven't really seen anyone who goes through tons of drivers and wedges put them on display). Well, gotta go, redoing my laundry room over the weekend and hopefully will make my mind up.

Spending $$$ on a putter is a no brainer. I don't understand why some people bash us Cameron guys saying we spend to much $$$ on a putter. The same people will spend $300 on a driver, which you use 10-14 times per round. You use a putter twice as often as a driver and certainly need to depend on it a lot more than a driver when it comes down to crunch time. Makes sense to me to spend your $$$ on a putter that you like and feel comfortable with.

mfetterman, it depends on the type of putter that a person wants. Putters can be as little as $100 or so up to mid 4 figures.

 

Yes, I am talking about $5K to 6K for a Cameron Tour GSS putter. A Cameron tour putter will be between $1K and $2K, closer to $2K. Tour putters have the benefit of having Scotty Cameron working on them. I do not own a Cameron tour putter but own 3 OTR Camerons, one of which is a limited run. Scotty Cameron putters are very solid and great quality putters.

 

However, there are many very good OTR putters from many companies. There are many people that are hard core for their preferred company. I would recommend that you find a putter that is pleasing to your eye and stroke as many putts with it as you can.

 

I am about to get a TP Mills custom putter. I have a few specs that is difficult to produce from the TP Mills OTR line. I have just begun to work with glenwayputters to find my preferred putter in the Mills line. This putter will run between $400 and $500 which is not bad for a truly custom putter, made to my specifications including some stampings I want, and attention from David Mills himself. OTR Mills putters run about $250.

 

That said, what ever putter you look at, take reviews from others with a grain of salt because most reviews are biased. Nobody putts like you so what works for one person is not necessarily what is best for you. Good luck in your quest and happy hunting.

Ah yes ...poor mfetterman, experiencing the beginnings of putterholism. Afraid that trying one might lead to a pleasurable experience necessitating purchase of another similar model leaving so many other possibilities untried thus preventing the discovery of one's true soul-mate of a putter. So many sizes, shapes, colors in a limitless collection of variables how do I know this is the "one". What happens when I see something else I like causing me to believe I must be missing something even better than what I have? Oh the tragedy of it all to discover the plain truth about oneself which over time I have come to accept concerning my own shortcomings...when it comes to putters I'm a feckless, fickle user who stands ready to put aside the current favorite when something younger, more attractive, and seemingly better suited to my needs comes along. When this happens, which it does with stunning frequency, cost is never an issue for I, sir, have an itch which MUST be scratched. So I say, go ahead, pull the trigger on something, anything as long as it suits your fancy in the moment. Besides putter chasing is way cheaper than chasing women; lord knows I've never had to buy a putter a house.
