Likes: These are very easy to hit iron’s that give you so much confidence out on the golf course. Much like all the Game Improvement or Super Game Improvement Iron’s on the market now, these are very forgiving for mis-hits off the toe. But unlike the BB’04’s that I had, these have a lower trajectory which is what I was looking for. Also, the Stock Uniflex Shaft are very good.

Dislikes: 4 Words… Callaway Stock Grips Suck

Quality: As with most things Callaway, the construction is top notch as is their customer service

Summary: Maybe it’s the “New Clubs” affect, maybe it’s the next logical progression in my golf equipment / golf game, but I love these clubs and played so well with them. I purchased these clubs to “upgrade” from my Big Bertha 2004’s which I loved. My only complaint with the BB04’s that caused me to start looking for new clubs was the ball flight was way to high and the wind affected my shots too much. Wehn I first purchased the BB04's I didn't care so much about that, as all I cared about was not skulling it and hitting it straight.

I was uncomfortable moving from my “Super” Game Improvement Irons (which were like a security blanket in my golf bag) and giving up all the forgiveness for something that seemed a bit more demanding, and what the short term impact it would have on my game. I was so wrong, these irons are everything the Big Bertha 04’s were and more (Read My Review). They seem to be just as forgiving, just as easy to hit, but have a lower ball flight. Also, I said welcome back to my divots with these irons, as the BB’04’s seemed to just burn the ground instead of taking a divot.

Do I regret purchasing the Big Bertha 04's over these last year? Definitely not. The Big Bertha's served their purpose. They helped me get going in golf and made the game so enjoyable. As my game improved (through lessons, practice, etc) these just seem like the next step.

Knocked the Mizuno mx-25's out of my bag.

Like to use the forgiveness even though I am a decent ball striker. Like the uniflex shafts as my swing speed

is a true 'tweener. Reg is whippy.... stiff is boardy.

They still give great feedback.

Do not dig like player's blade's leading edges.

Have a great white paint goal post on the face to check alignment and direction.

Playability = A+

Value = A (got mine a season old, the x-20's out now)

Looks = B to be forgiving they can't look like Titleist blades!

I think any under 20 handicap will find these irons a nice choice.

Better than PING and Taylor Made irons for the mid handicap I think by a long way.

I purchased the X-18 irons about a year ago, I was using an outdated set of Wilson 1200 GE's with inconsistent shot making. I figured it was my swing which was the reason for my inconsistency, and that if I wanted to get better I would need some coaching from a golf professional. I got a good deal on a brand new set of X-18's from my local golf shop, due in part to the arrival of the new X-20's. I demo'd the X-18's and could not believe how straight and long I was hitting the six iron. I then played around with the demo set, I can't remember how many strokes I had dropped but was so impressed with how easy and consistent these clubs were, I purchased a new set that day. I recommend these clubs to any one who is a high to mid handicapper looking for straighter more predictable shots. These irons pretty much go where you want them to.

Does anybody know why the x18's at DICK"S are listed as x18R ? What's the R for?
[/quote]

The R is for remake, they don't have the bore-thru hosels.
They don't appear to be quite as off-set.
