Wedge Setup Help

I need some help setting up my wedges for 2013 specifically how much bounce I should play. My current setup is:

Ping Tour W 50* Gap wedge, 10 degrees bounce- Used for full shots of 100 yards and occasional mid range bump and runs with the ball played back in my stance. I don't really have issues with this club.

Ping Tour W 54* Sand wedge, 10 degrees bounce- Used for full shots of 85-90 yards and 3/4 shots of 75 yards and occasional medium length chips.

Ping Tour 58* Lob wedge, unsure of bounce- Used for full shots of 70-75 yards and most shots within 30 yards pitching and short chips. I also use this as my primary club in bunkers.

The courses I play in Dallas are usually pretty firm with tight lies so from what I've read I believe I'm supposed to use lower bounce wedges. The issue is sometimes when I get the leading edge digging on pitches and chips someitmes causing flubs if the ground is wet. I've read that you should pitch with the bounce of the club but I'm having a hard time doing so consistently.

I usually play my wedges with a pretty square club face and am a 10 HC. Do I need more bounce to keep the leading edge from digging? . Should I try a different grind such as the TS grind from Ping? Any ideas are welcome.

I had a similar problem with my wedges digging too much, went to higher bounces and definitely made a huge improvement. I'm in New England though so the ground is always soft, unless its frozen haha.

The TS grind is not going to give you more bounce, it will have less than an off-the-shelf Ping wedge. The TS is very low bounce, 6 degrees I think.

I used a 58* Tour-W TS for most of last year and I got rid of it because it wasn't enough bounce for me. I would take beaver pelt divots every time it rained, and it was useless in the sand unless it was hard as a rock.

More bounce will help you from digging in. The TS grind actually takes away bounce, so i wouldn't want that. A good general rule of thumb is to do one of 2 things if you play lots of conditions. Get 2 mid bounce wedges in your 54/58 which would be as versitile for all conditions. The other thing you can do is get a high bounce wedge and a low bounce wedge. The 54 high bounce for the sand and 58 low bounce for tight lies and hard pan.

The thing i would do is play my 54 out of the sand and on chips that are wet. The added bounce will help the digging in. The 58 with low bounce can be used for tight lies and firm conditions. You can always open the face up on the 58 in the sand to increase bounce. Opening up a face on any wedge will increase bounce to decrease digging in. The best thing i have found is getting a wedge with a grind that still has high bounce but allows you to open it up with a lower leading edge.

Thanks everyone I'm not sure which bounce option my 58 wedge has but I'm guessing its the low bounce option. I may pick up a high bounce 58 and see how that works.

Love my 60/10 Tour-S. Also have a 54/10 like you, only I bent it to 55/11. 5 degree steps between wedges works out well. Better separation between clubs than 4 degrees.

Is 10 a standard bounce for Ping? What's the high and low bounce option? I need to figure out of my old school 58 degree Tour is the 8 or 13.5 degree bounce option, I'm leaning towards 8 the way it digs if the ground is soft. Is there any way to blunt the leading edge?

The Ping website has info on the various clubs they make, both new and old. I think 10 degrees is about the most for a 60 degree club, other than the Eye2 family. Regarding the leading edge, you could always grind it. I've done it on various clubs over the years. The Ping Tour wedges are chrome plated, so the chrome edge may show afterwards though.
