Golf in Pensacola FL

Thinking of taking the family to Pensacola in March. Any recommendations of good golf courses in the area? Thanks.

The only one I've played there is The Moors Golf Club, and that's been about 4 years ago. It's near the I-10 bridge on the other side of the bay, maybe a 15 minute drive or so from downtown Pensacola. I believe it might be the course Bubba Watson and Boo Weekly played on in Highschool if that matters to you.

it was very open and windy the day I played it, but in excellent shape and had a nice proshop and snack bar, where everyone was very pleasant.

Kelly Plantation in Destin is phenomenal ...... Also in Destin is Regatta Bay and the 3 courses at the Sandestin resort .... Raven, Burnt Pine and Baytowne ....... Raven being the best out of that bunch !!

Last I was aware of, the Moors is for sale and not open. Shame. Tiger Point is great, Lost Key (lost ball as some refer to it as), Scenic Hills off of 9 mile, Perdido is great as well. Lived there a few years ago, still have real estate there and lots of family. Great area (to visit- no offense).

Wow...that is too bad about The Moors if in fact it did close.

Tiger Point is another one, I was going to mention, I have never played it but its just down the road from Gulf Breeze where my mother lives, and I had heard good things about it as well.

I understand completely what you mean about a nice place to visit. My trips there are usually about 2-3 days, and by the third day, I'm ready to go. A very nice small retirement type area, but I don't think I could live there all year.

Scenic Hills is OK, AC Read on NAS Pensacola is decent (and open to the public). I have a friend in Pensacola who is a private club member, he told me Perdido Key is decent, Lost Key is garbage. Marcus Point and Osceola are both average, decent places. Of the courses in Baldwin County, Alabama, most are over priced housing development courses that I've either played and have little desire to play again or I haven't played because I figure I'll just leave disapopinted. Lakewood, also in Baldwin Co., is owned by the RTJ Trail, but it's a rip off of the highest order and I'd almost rather remove my thumbnail with a pair of pliers than play there again. Going towards Destin, there are some decent places, mostly housing developments. Sandestin is supposed to be decent, but a lot of the holes seem to have water down one side and houses down the other.

I'd recommend Osceola over the rest I named in Pensacola just because you won't be disappointed with quality and won't be ripped off.

One thing that just came to mind, that bears mentoning. It dawned on me you said taking the family in March (spring break) so I'm guessing you are staying on Pensacola, Beach. The beach is not really close to Pensacola proper. Sure by the way the crow flies it's only about a mile or two across the Bay. But driving wise is an entirely different animal, you have to through Gulf Breeze then across the 3-mile bridge. During peak season, that drive can take anywhere from 15 minutes to over 45.

So you might want to consider Tiger Point as it is on the same side of the bridge as the beach. There will still be traffic getting off the peninsula of the beach, but then you want have to deal with the 3-mile bridge. Just something else to think about, if you are in fact staying on the beach.

[sup][size=4][size=5]If you're staying in Pensacola Beach, then I'd recommend Tiger Point. Played a tournament there and found it to be enjoyable and fair. It is in a housing development, but the homes are far enough away from lines of play.[/size][/size][/sup]

Thanks for the all the info. We are staying at Pensacola Beach. The wife and daughter will spend the day at the beach, while my son and I are golfing. Looks like some really nice courses from the info offered here.

Moors is definitely closed. 2 other courses not mentioned and definitely worth a look are Stonebrook Golf Club in Pace, about 20 miles from the beach, and Perdido Bay probably the same distance a bit toward the west. Marcus Pointe in the middle of Pensacola was recently renovated and is another good choice. Tiger Point used to be one of the best courses, besides Pensacola Country Club, but has been let go quite a bit. Osceola and Scenic Hills are usually crowded and past their prime..

if you haven't made any dining plans yet don't miss McGuires Irish Pub. Peg Leg Pete's and The Grand Marlin on Pensacola Beach and The Fish House/Atlas Oyster Bar on the mainland are also good choices.

NAS on A tuesday maybe Blues are practicing then, worth the drive to Destin and play Kelly Plantation, Regatta bay, Indian Bayou 3 very nice courses Pensacola golf has really dried up lived here all my life.
