Summer golf info again!

Hi,

 

Thanks for all your opinions and course info last time I was on here, back in the Autumn ( http://www.golfwrx.c...y-in-june-2013/ )

 

I have now booked our flights and hotel for the 20th June until 1st July, so just the golf left to sort out. Whilst most of the courses will likely stay pretty much the same, I think I will probably give TPC Champions a miss and book 2 more courses for the same total money. This means we will be playing 9 days out 11 instead of 8, plus a round on the morning of departure..........although I'm not 100% sure whether the older guys coming will be able to cope with that schedule!!

 

Anyway, just to share some info with you guys, I have confirmed that there will be no Summer aerification problems at Quintero (done on May 28-30), both Troon North Pinnacle (in Sep) and Monument (on May 21-23) and also Superstition Mountain Lost Gold (in mid-May, although Prospector is out as they are punching June 16-18).

 

I am waiting to hear back from Vista Verde, and have yet to contact Raven at Verrado and Talking Stick, although in previous years the North course has been available as it is not punched until July (but I will be checking with them again this year just to be sure)!

 

I am now looking for a couple of extra rounds to fill in the blank days, maybe somewhere like Estrella (which seems to be a favourite on here), Eagle Mountain (which I enjoyed 10 years ago and who have previously punched their greens in July), Longbow (who I think are doing their greens on June 24-25 but I need to clarify that) or Wildfire (who I see are punching both courses in July and August). The choice for the last morning will probably be between The Legacy and The Raven Phoenix.

 

Do you guys have any local knowledge to share on these possible 'replacements'? Are any significantly better than the others? Are there any other 'hidden gems' that I might be missing out on? Should I not be so greedy and stick with the original plan? I would really appreciate some more opinions please....and thanks for taking the time to read all this!!

Gallery is now Public down in Marana...as good, maybe better than Ritz

Whirlwind

If your going out to Quintero, you can try Los Caballeros.

I'd hit up trilogy vistancia. About 20minutes closer to Phx than Quintero although not as dramatic.

If you are out at Raven at Verrado and/or Estrella, you might want to look at Copper Canyon. Its way out there but we all enjoyed the course. I rated it highly for playability and conditioning in February.

Just to add to my original post, [b]Vista Verde[/b]'s Summer maintenance is from 17th-25th June, so unfortunately we have lost that one!

Having just emailed [b]Copper Canyon[/b], they are punching greens and starting the transition to Bermuda grass on June 3rd and 4th. Their Head Pro said there would be some thin turf coverage mid-to-late month in the fairways and rough. So for you local guys out there, would the course be in reasonable shape by the 28th and would it be worth the 2 hour round trip?
