Scramble Tournament

I hope this is in the right forum...

I have an invitation to put together a 4 person team to play in a scramble event at Oakmont (yes, THE Oakmont) in April, just 2 months before the US Open descends upon western PA.

Anyway, you'd think it'd be easy to find people to play in this, but the cost is a rather big problem. For the 4 person team, the cost is $4,000. Now, that covers the golf, the cart prizes, and a banquet that night, but its still steep.

I fully expect that no one person would realistically cover $1,000 to play Oakmont in a scramble format, but I thought I'd throw this out there in case anyone has a company that would willingly sponsor a team. That's at least an option since 1/2 of the entry fee is tax deductible.

I don't think I would personally cover it, but is the scramble going to benefit a charity organization or something worthwhile? People might go for that as opposed to just dropping a grand to play at Oakmont.

 

Depending on the type of event, these things can be great networking opportunities if you are a partner in a consulting/law firm or own a B2B business.

If I were up in your area in April, I'd do it in a heartbeat -- the course is great but the chance to be around someone who sports such a good looking logo, would only add to the day.

 

We'll be up in May to watch our son walk the lawn. We're not alums, but our son is a fourth year and we've considered ourselves full fledged 'hoos for several years now. I'm even considering going on the alumni/parents golf trip to Scotland in August.

 

We try to find a reason to visit C'ville every chance we can. The city and area are great and I'm not sure I've ever seen a university that seems to make all the right choices for its kids. Good luck in putting together your team or yell if you're even in need of something in the lone star state.

Good point, there is a charity. I don't remember what that charity is right now, but could find out if someone is interested.
