2013 time to learn the fade :)

Hi guys,

it´s about time that i post a swing of mine and ask the experts a few questions that bother me. The 2013 season is on it´s way and my goal for this year is to improve my iron ball striking. My current Hcp is about +2 and i think i have some work to do with irons, especially the longer ones.

 

So i have a few questions for you guys:

 

1. at the top of the backswing the club is kinda layed off . what do you think about that position?

2. in the downswing i tend to get a little bit too flat. so i´m trying to swing more neutral. my swing thought is to try to cut the ball. (drill in the video) what would be your advise to steepen my down swing? i think with my bad swing the arms getting stucked behind my body and have a hard time to catch up resulting in a hook.

I'll throw in my two cents if you don't mind.
If you're a +2 I don't think there's much of a change you need to make. As far as the club being laid off at the top, you get the club right back down on plane entering the impact zone so I don't think that's an issue.
I don't think you're steep at all, in fact, you've got an overall beautiful swing. Where I think the hook comes in is the fact that the clubface is way shut at the top. Swing really reminds me of Dustin Johnson's, where he shuts the face right at the takeaway but holds the club square through impact with all his might to produce a baby draw and prevent the hook. So you might get a left going left ballflight just because you're swinging on plane but the face is closed and turning over at impact.
Clubface has so much to do with where the ball starts, so I think the same path with a slightly more open face, (open relative to your path, not the target line) and holding the clubface would produce a nice butter cut. Also clearing the hips a but sooner wouldn't hurt. I don't think really much needs to be changed.

i agree with you, at the moment i think the club face is the biggest issue! But i think another problem is that at the start of the downswing my hands have the tendency to fall behind and i get stucked, resulting in losing the lag a little bit to early. I think a better connection between upper and lower body would help me to improve my ballstriking. do you think this drill is good for me. I think it could help me with my getting stucked problem. but it´s really scary to hit the driver with an alignment stick in your belt loops.
