Hilton Head or Sea Island?

So my wife wants to plan a long weekend getaway for us for my upcoming 30th bday. I definitely want to involve golf but we also enjoy activities, restaurants, etc...

 

We're planning on just a couple of nights away and I was thinking either Sea Island or Hilton Head. I know Sea Island is a bit more "exclusive" and it may not provide a ton of options for us beside the resort and golf. Any thoughts on this? What would be a great place to stay on Hilton Head?

 

Any other locations I should consider (Southeast US - FL/GA/SC??) - I live in South Florida and will be driving.

You can't go wrong with either, but Hilton Head will offer more to do outside of the resort and golf. Sea Island will also be quite a bit more expensive than most anywhere on Hilton Head but you do get the privacy that goes along with that. We have been going to Hilton Head for vacation for the last 15 years and have always stayed in a house or condo in Palmetto Dunes. There are three nice courses in the resort (RTJ and Arthur Hills are the better of the three). Sea Pines is another spot worth checking out...if you're looking for more of a boutique hotel take a look at the Inn at Harbour Town: https://www.seapines.com/accommodations/inn-at-harbour.aspx

It backs up to the first tee at Harbour Town and is within walking distance of the course, shops and restaurants at the marina.

You got Sea Island in June and get the Golf all Day package and literally play. All. Day. The staff, course, and atmosphere is unlike any other. Bagpiper at dusk, warm cookies with a cold glass of milk, and a hot shower with one of those rain type showers. My wife likes the rose petaled hot bath.

You can watch the likes of DLIII, Kuch, and Sneds at the Learning Center working on their games. Place is awesome!

I would suggest Sea Island if you can swing it.

St. Simon's has a nice quiet, quaint, sleepy community feel to it. Bike riding around town, the beach.. Small restaurants, no chains.

Staying at Sea Island, you will be pampered until you tell them to go away. The golf is amazingly good, and they run specials for all day play, or promos for certain things all the time. Plenty of stuff for your wife to do if she doesn't play, and you can play all day, or relax at the pools/beach and then hit the Learning Center up and blast a few balls with the pro's.

If you plan to stay around where you are staying/playing then Sea Island for sure. It's just top quality all the way around.

HIlton Head is a fantastic place as well, and if you want to go out and have more night life, and maybe save a bit more money, then head there. Great golf as well obviously.
