Caddying in Florida - Looking for some help/info

Hey guys,

Hoping to head down south next winter with a buddy to caddy and work on our games. Looking for some info from some people who have done this and have some advice. I know of a couple places myself but not many, so if you know of a course that has a caddy program let me know. Any and all help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Cody

olde memorial in tampa is the only place i have firsthand knowledge of. top notch place.
That is one of the places I know of...couple guys from here have gone there. I don't think caddies get much in the line of playing privileges there though, if any.

I caddied at Old Memorial. Sunday is caddy play day after 1:00 I think. This has been a few years ago, so it may have changed.

The season there is about to run out, it's more of a winter course.
May look into it. Any decent tracks nearby that you can play?

Others have mentioned Streamsong and Old Memorial. Orlando Ritz Carlton and TPC Sawgrass use caddies. Sawgrass uses some nationwide caddie program though. Pretty sure Medalist requires a caddie with every round. Do some research into the big name private clubs in Orlando(Isleworth, Lake Nona, Interlachen) and South Florida(Bear's Club, Medalist, Seminole) at least one of them is bound to have some sort of caddie reserve.

The Bayou Club, Largo, FL
Lots of TMade clubs and an old SC putter

The terms "caddying" and " working on my game" really don't mix. If you're going to get a caddy gig at a good Florida club, you are going to have extremely limited playing privileges at that club, and limited time to practice elsewhere because you'll be working 6 days a week.
Getting a job at one of the desirable caddy clubs is getting really tough as more and more clubs move away from caddies completely. Gulfstream, Seminole, McArthur, Loblolly, and Old Memorial are the "best" clubs to work at that I know of.
In all seriousness, if you are trying to go down for the winter to work on your game, get a job away from a golf course. Maybe a golf retailer like PGA superstore or something.
good luck

All in Naples area. Calusa Pines(top 100) Naples National, Olde Collier, Golf Club of the Everglades, Hideout, Olde Florida all really nice places that are not cheap to join. Doubt the whole work on my game will go over at any one of them though. Be better off getting a cart job as a seasonal employee at a mid level club that treats their employees like people and not dogs.

I think pretty much every high end club in Palm Beach/Jupiter & Naples has a caddie program. About 50% of the caddies at my club caddie somewhere down there in the winter. The clubs I have heard for sure are: Seminole, Old Marsh, Old Memorial, Everglades Club, Lost Tree, Medalist, Bears Club, Trump, GC of Everglades, Calusa Pines. Not sure which ones are the best, but I am guessing Seminole, Everglades, and Calusa.

Also like someone stated above. I know a lot of those courses dont allow a ton of caddie play and only on certain days. If you do want to venture down to the Palm Beach area let me know. I have a buddy that valets at trump. I can see if they need any help/if they get some kind of playing privileges. PM me if you want me to reach out

None of those Orlando clubs mentioned above have caddies , all three of the others do as well as macarther, old marsh , and Loxahatchee.

Bringing this thread back from the dead. I live in the Naples area and want to get into caddying. Anyone have any info or tips for me?

ditto. any info would be helpful.

ETA on looking for a Caddy gig near Marco Island/naples. No 'working on my game' worries here. But wouldn't mind a lil free golf as pricey as the courses are down here!

I used to live and work in the golf industry in Naples. I know Calusa Pines (off Immoklee rd.) uses Caddies and I believe Naples national does as well.

Correct, the two concepts don't mesh usually. I now the guys at Streamsong are mostly long term loopers with various tour experience, and they've told me they rarely get to play there, even for a fee.....

A lot of the courses will put on additional cart/range guys for the "season", but you have to get on it early, as numerous guys like yourself do the same thing. If this is your first go at it, keep in mind the clubs look for guys with work ethic, not just hanging around for playing privileges. I lived at bay Hill for many years, and they finally stopped hiring aspiring players.....

I caddy at one of the better spots in Palm Beach area.

We can play starting at 2:00 Monday-Thursday. Also most guys who are trying to play/work on their game (and there are lots) have two days off a week. You're required to take at least one day off a week. Where I work members don't have to take caddies after 1:00 so if we don't get out by 1:00 we get cut and have the afternoon off. This will usually only happen on your slow days. If you work at a nice private course they aren't going to make you pay. But you will need to find somewhere to practice. You will also work with very good golfers so you will be meeting people to play with and against on your off days/afternoons.

The best way to get into it is to know a member at a club with a program. If that's not an option I'd suggest finding out who the caddie master is and writing him an email (or better a letter) and expressing your interest in a job. If you've never caddied before and don't know a member there's not much shot of you getting a job at a place like Calusa. I don't know Naples area but I'd imagine most high end private clubs have caddies. Honestly the best way might be to find a sports bar in the area of the clubs and talk to the caddies that way. In my area it would be Burger Bar in Jupiter.

Palm Beach is the best area for caddies in Florida with Naples being second. In Palm Beach the best spots are Bears Club, Medalist, Seminole, Old Marsh, McArthur, Palm Beach CC, Lost Tree, Trump Int, Trump Jup, Everglades, Dye Preserve, Loxahatchee, Loblolly, Old Palm and I'm sure I'm missing a few. All have their reasons for being good.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
