Travels To Pittsburgh

So my biz travels have me in the Burgh all week and have a break in the action Wednesday and want to play. I'm staying Downtown in the Shadyside hospital area. I'm willing to travel 40min's (whatever) to play a sweet track, I need you suggestions fellas. Right now I have a time at Olde Stone Wall but $150 seems a little nuts, I hear Quick Silver might be the ticket? Appreciated...BB

QuickSilver is a good choice. Also, Cranberry Highlands is a very nice track about 30-40 minutes north of the city.

Mystic Rock is awesome but is an hour at least from where you are staying.

Olde Stonewall is money...

Unless you can get on Oakmont or Laurel Valley....Then choose those

You could do TotterRidge which is sweet layout and less cost them Ole Stonewall.

Olde Stonewall is terrific but expensive. It also takes a lot longer than 40 minutes to get there from Shadyside. If you're willing to drive and pay then stick with it. Otherwise:

The Madison Club
Totter Ridge
The Links At Spring Church
Quicksilver (not as nice as the others but great course)
Cranberry Highlands


All of those are within 45 minutes from Shadyside.

If you have extra time to blow and are willing to travel only 10 mins, try Grandview. You can get a twilight rate for around $20. The course is hilly, short, and a lot of target golf, but it is always in tremendous shape.

A little off topic, but if you're planning on doing some sight seeing and are interested in architecture... Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water is about 45 minutes outside the city. I went there on my last Pitt trip and it was worth the trip for sure.

That would be very interesting indeed, maybe next trip to Pittsburgh. So the weather has turned for the better and no issues with cart paths only so Olde Stonewall it is, I'm excited and hear nothing but good reviews. The tee sheet is light so I will get to enjoy a pieceful loop alone, I actaully enjoy a round here or there by myself to just focus on golf and clear the mind. Thanks for the help fellas, xerpro I'm sending you a PM in advance of my next business trip in so we can hookup and have a game at a local private track, Oakmont would be EPIC! BB

Played Olde Stonewall today and I'm REALLY happy I did, great track thats TOUGH yet fair. The vistas, Dramatic elevation changes and borderline excentric rock wall formations are simply amazing, I snapped a bunch of pics to share with you guys. It took the architect 2yrs to place all of the stone blocks, insane. Once I return from vacation I will do a review, this course is expensive but worth the effort. From the black tees 6600yrds the slope is 144! The course was in excellent condition and the greens pretty darn fast and very smooth...BB

I am not surprised that you had found Olde Stonewall to be very good , of the premium courses around western Pa. i found this one to be one of the best and i would not hesitate to spend the extra money to play it again
